My OH opened an account yesterday but accidentally put switch details down from an account switched the other week to Natwest. Obviously, this doesn't work and today the text arrived that the switch attempt was unsuccessful. What should we do now, call Halifax and give them the new switch details or can we do it online? We should still be entitled to the bonus as there is no requirement to initiate a switch at account opening I think?

On another note, we went for the 5er monthly bonus. Halifax, like Lloyds allows to open additional current accounts so if we (my switch is ongoing) open another 4 rewards accounts, will we be able to the reward o each of the accounts or is it only possible to have one rewards account incentive per customer, regardless of how many reward accounts we hold? Could bump bonus between the two of us to 600 a year that way.
You can do the switch online but you need to log in to online banking to do it.

You can get multiple rewards if you meet the criteria on multiple accounts.

Thanks for confirming, need to wait on snail mail to deliver the codes for online banking. Great on the accounts, that's going to be 5 reward accounts each, making it 10 accounts and therefore 600 pounds a year in rewards. What's not to like about this. The requirements needed are easy to achieve.

I thought the limit was 3 reward accounts per person.

How many Reward current accounts can you have?

Are there no DD requirements for the switch?

Lloyds allows up to max 5 current accounts, how many reward accounts are allowed, I don't know that's why I was asking in the first place. Since it is the same banking group I assumed they all more or less follow the same rules. If it is only 3 reward accounts that would still be 360 between the OH and I. Still good profit for reasonably low effort.

Only 3 Halifax Reward accounts per person are allowed now.

i have just checked on the app. i am able to switch in to an existing account. i know you will have the option to switch while opening the new account. so both options are open to you.
  • Bit of a newbie to switching so apologies if this is a dumb q! Have set up a dummy account and requested a switch which is progressing. Plan to switch the Halifax account once the £175 is credited so I don't have to meet the ongoing reward requirements - I can't see anything in the T's and C's that would prevent this or am i missing something?

Yep, once you've got the money whatever you do with the account after that is your business - In fact I've got a switch completing today on a Lloyds account with a monthly fee but they've already paid the switch bonus into that account, so now I've put the switch instruction in to have that Lloyds one transferred to Halifax to pick up this extra £175 despite the other only being open a week or two.

If for any reason you don't manage to switch away from the new Halifax straight away, you should also be able to just downgrade the account back to a basic one without any fees/rewards/requirements.
    Moo…
