I am appalled by the complete lack of understanding of our District council about AFP payments. Having heard nothing in six weeks I rang the Govt. helpline to ask if the application had been processed.  I was told the Local Authority were notified nearly 5 weeks ago to process the application. After emails and phone calls I have been told so far to  -

.. ring the Department for Work and Pensions
.. contact Welfare for a benefits assessment
.. contact the local revenue office
.. contact our energy supplier for help with fuel costs
.. apply to the Govt. for payment !!

    Its beyond belief.

I hope no one else is having the same issues.  However if you haven't been paid nor received any communication in six weeks its more than likely your local council hasn't processed payment because they believe its only for those receiving benefits.

I am furious and won't let this drop, watch this space.

… they believe its only for those receiving state benefits.
They must be thinking of the Warm Home Discount.  Not even with a remotely similar name!

If this is happening in our council just think how many others have had their application rejected because they do not meet benefits criteria or other assessments which the council think they should tick to receive AFP . Most will accept the decision without realising the council got it completely wrong.
  • I rang the council about our payment, when I eventually got to speak to someone they said they have no additional resource to deal with this so are just getting to the applications when they can and couldn't say when payment would be made. So the government promise of 6 weeks until payment when you submit your application is rubbish. We've just hit the 6 week mark and nothing yet.

Yep. I am also waiting for the £200 payment. I submitted a valid claim with a relevant oil delivery invoice on the 7th March. Sadly with Craven District Council merging into some new Unitised North Yorkshire Authority a few weeks ago, I had little hope of seeing a timely payment !!

We still haven't got ours. I checked both databases and we should have received automatic payment but didn't, so I applied manually online on 7/3/23 as soon as applications opened. 6 Weeks later and nothing, so emailed them. Got an automatic reply telling me they would respond within 48h - 1 week later still nothing. Phoned them (0808 175 3943) today to be told it's with the Local Authority who are backlogged and not accepting queries. Unable to advise me when we may receive payment. To be fair, at least they answered the phone quickly even if they couldn't tell me anything useful.

Still waiting however I am a bit more optimistic. After a few more emails to the council I have had responses from two departments who assure me its being looked into and once checks!! are made I will be paid. Will see.

Finally I've been paid but only after a few phone calls and emails to the local council. Good luck to everyone else still waiting and don't accept no for an answer.
