  • I got the same closure letter. I came across to them when they took over the Post Office Credit Card. Can only think it's due to too low a spend on my part, even though I have made a few transactions in the last few months, whilst shopping abroad online. The Post Office originally sold it to me (by a person manning a stall in the local Post Office) by saying that it was good for using abroad and they didn't mind if I used another card for most of my transactions in the UK. I have used cashback cards for years. Presumably they were happy with my pre-pandemic use, the last big holiday overseas was in 2019 -  six weeks in Australia with stopovers in Vietnam and Singapore. Big spend and many transactions. Not been abroad since. Will be heading off abroad for the first time since then, at the end of May, just after they close my account! Don't they know there's been a pandemic?

Your usage pre 2019 was with a different lender (Bank of Ireland). Jaja acquired the portfolio relatively cheap and now appear to be binning off all the clients who are making no money - which appears to be anyone who always paid their balance in full.

I also got the email 3 days ago to say they are closing the card.

I always use it but about £300 a month and always pay it off.

  • OK well chalk me up as another one who has received notification.

Got the Post Office card years and years ago for a trip abroad, figured it'd also be handy to built credit score.

It is the one and only card I've ever had. What do we do now? Do CCs have transfer options like current accounts do, or is it just a case of signing up for another one and letting this one die off?

Wondering too given I will be mortgaging in the coming months if I should just let it die and organise that first and then apply for another card?

I changed over to the Virgin Money Travel Card today (going through Credit Club on here) which meant you get pre approval of cards (or not) before actually applying so saves you time, so I recommend that.
(I haven’t paid off all my Jaja card just yet).

You can transfer balance easy or just pay off your Jaja you have a month or two left to do that.

Regarding your mortgage if you can wait to apply until after, if it was me I would. :)

  • Ach! Got the email too.

I have a positive balance, from a recent refund. Guess I have to spend it or will they automatically pay me out?

Shame as I use it for most of my online shopping and overseas spend. Used to feel good to sock it to paypal when they try to get me to pay using their forex rate, lol!

Damn, I need another fee free holiday/overseas spending card....

If you're carrying a balance, try to get a 0% Balance Transfer card.

If you're not, just sign up for a new card, stop using Jaja (move any recurring payments like Netflix), pay off your Jaja statement and either close it or given they're going to close it anyway you can just do nothing if you prefer.

If I were you, and I could afford to, I'd probably try to get my mortgage sorted before doing any credit applications. Highly unlikely to make a difference but not impossible.

You don't need to pay it off (at least my email said this). You only need to stop buying things with it. You can still carry on paying off just the minimum if you want
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

Aye, but if you're paying off your balance in full month to month I wouldn't advise stopping.

Interesting.  I got the Asda card a while back and haven't had any notifications of closure and I use it regularly.
