Escape to the country & living off savings

  • Thank you both. I have £3.20 left in my current account & £6.87 in my purse to last until I pay myself on Friday. However I have over £80k in savings, enough food and a roof over my head and that £20 could have been part of someone’s rent, heating or food budget for the week. As I found it on a shop floor I figured there is a chance someone could claim it. 😇 If it had been in the street chances are I would have kept it 😈 Don’t know what the shop will do with it if it’s not claimed, but at least it’s not on my conscience. 😊

I have just submitted my gas & electric meter readings so the bill should be ready in the next day or so and then I can work out my budget for November.

My signature below my posts explains…
“Debt free & mortgage free & no longer working, now living off the equity”

I am living off the money I made by selling my house, downsizing and moving to a cheaper part of the country until my pensions start.

  • No regrets SQS ☺️ Work was killing me physically and mentally. I miss my DS & his gf and puppy dog & friends in the south, but we keep in touch on the phone and I will be visiting several times a year. The rest of my family and old friends live here in the north.

Glad you’ve no regrets SYA - have to confess I started reading your diary again from the beginning and comparing the entries from
back when you 1st moved to recent ones - you sound so content now and confident 😊👍🏻 I’m really happy for you (and a bit jealous too 😉)

I’m a bit similar to you really SYA - the plan is to retire early - but OH will be retiring a fair bit earlier than me - quite soon actually.  he is able to take his work pension earlier than state pension age - but I’ve got another 5 years till I reach my full state pension so I’m going to work at least till then.  Luckily I can do the job in my sleep and my chair is empty at tools down time every day.

I’d love to travel a bit once we’ve retired - nothing too fancy really but I’d love to go to the festival
of lights in Venice - went as a teenager with my parents but I was too young to appreciate it.

beyond that I want to get more involved In local community - maybe join the WI, I love gardening but I shouldn’t be allowed to cook as I’ve had some shocking kitchen disasters. Cant believe I just said I wanted to join the WI - 🤣🤣🤣

you are a real inspiration to me SYA

  • Sounds wonderful SQS even the bit about the WI 😆 I can understand you wanting to keep working until you qualify for full state pension. Festival of light sounds amazing 🤩

Not sure about being an inspiration 🫣 I’m just making it up as I go along 😆 trying to live my best life, otherwise what was the point of it all. Keeping busy and active stops the doubt and regret creeping in, I feel settled and this is now home 😊

Today is bright and the sun has arrived and is starting to burn off the mist. DF is coming round later to help with some diy. One of the living room windows is not sealing properly and the blinds were blowing inside during the recent storm. I stuffed the gaps with paper which helped but it needs a proper seal. Also the kitchen/ diner door is not shutting so he is going to shave off the bit where it is sticking. May involve a trip to a diy store 😉 Living the dream 🤣
