Thanks for that clarity from RWG.

What I had not realised until now, was band 20 was exclusively used for VoLTE and WiFi calling.  I just knew Band 20 was one of the lower frequency and earlier bands used by mobile phone networks and being the lower frequency has further coverage in difficult locations like ours.    It seems a little strange that arguably the "best" band is used for more of a niche service.

Their reply also suggests VoLTE and wifi calling is their second priority with 5G being their first.  But 5G is not available from any provider in a rural setting like ours so is far from being my first priority.

They might never have claimed to have access to band 20, but they do claim to "use the EE network" without even giving the merest hint, that their coverage might fall short in some places compared to full EE network coverage.

It is a good sign that RWG gave a reply and clarified the issue.

A little bit over my head, but the statement doesn't say band 20 is only for those services, just that they have full radio access to ee apart from those services, which they go on to describe as "further services" after the launch of 5g.
I wonder therefore whether the op is receiving a cellular signal through 1pmobile, or just wifi calling. Perhaps you could disconnect from wifi and see whether 1pmobile still shows a strong signal at your home.

Yes I definitely get a signal from 1Pmobile.  It is not very strong inside the house, which is why wifi calling is so important to me, but it definitely makes calls with wifi turned off.  With the RWG phone I have to go some distance from the house to get a signal on a different band before that can make or receives calls, and without wifi calling it is presently useless at home.

Yes I doubt band 20 is used everywhere for VoLTE it is just that is what EE happen to use on the one mast that serves us at home and is the only band we can get a signal from at home.   I do hope it is not too long before RWG add this to their service.

Could be you are receiving a 5g signal on 1pmoble?
Rwg claim to have full access with "this exception", the exception being vowifi/volte and 5g
"The posts on here are very accurate in that we don't yet have access to Band 20 from EE for VoLTE or VoWiFi (and we have never claimed to have) and we also don't have access to 5G yet. However, we do have full radio access to EE's network with this exception."

That would be quite a feat, on a phone made before 5G was invented.

But if rwg have "full access" to everything else how can your 1pmobile sim get a signal when the rwg sim can't?

I think the answer is that B20 is off limits on EE if you don't have VoLTE. When RWG get access then the coverage will be similar to 1P.

Here's one discussion about it on the EE forum

Because RWG have full access to the EE network except the Volte and wifi services and has we have discovered that means no band 20 coverage here.  And due to my location in a valley, band 20 is the only one I can receive at my house.  1P mobile include VoLTE and wifi and since I can receive band 20 that works.

I expect I am in the minority having an issue like this.

OK so is it VoLTE that you are receiving from 1pmobile but not rwg?
Because my understanding is that requires a 4g data signal to work. So even if rwg don't support volte or vowifi you should still have a 4g data signal.  it isn't just that they are not providing volte or VoWiFi. They are not providing any cellular signal to you. That suggests the exception to "full radio access" is pretty significant!
