.........................................................What I need to do is give them the correct readings for mid January to allow them to create the quarterly bill correctly. ........................................
I think you are trying to over complicate things -  forget the mid Jan readings, that's history. Just concentrate on today's readings.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • Don't get hung up on the fact that the readings are recent - if the reading now is lower than the estimated reading they have used previously they will adjust accordingly. You just need to wait for that to happen now - hopefully it shouldn't take too long.

  • I thought they would need  the correct readings for the 1/4 period 16th Oct to 15th Jan. If I give them a reading for 20th Feb how are they going to know what I used up to 16th Jan and then after the 16th Jan, or will they just estimate it again? I thought the reason for actual readings was to help them create accurate bills to prevent these drastically over estimated bills.

It really doesn't matter specifically what you use in a quarter - there are are posters on here who haven't (ever) sent a reading.

  • Hi,
they will bill you from Oct until today's reading.

The only time this could have made any sort of significant different would have been if you were on Economy 7 - which you're not, so honestly, don't stress about it. It will be close enough - and really in any case, what is relevant right now is how much you've used up to this point, and that they use the actual figures not the estimates.

It only started in October, and this bill is mid October to mid January so I should get the 1st 3 months £66 per month off, nothing in my bank account and according to the email i got back last year they would automatically apply it to my bill. Looks like they forgot. I wonder how many other people they forgot, seems an easy way to make money! These big companies need more accountability. I seem to be spending more and more time chasing their mistakes.
The qualifying date for EBSS is the first day of the month, so a bill for mid-October forward would not have an EBSS credit for that month.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
