Scottish Power over estimated bill and I can't resubmit readings, and can't complain to Ofgem either

I thought the energy price cap was around 34p a kWh, 56p is a 40% increase! I understand that I will pay a bit more not paying my DD but my beef is I'm paying 40% more and they haven't explained that I only found it by reading through all the calculations on the bill I just assumed that as the government had set a cap everyone would pay the same basic price give or take a bit. If not it should have been explained to me clearly at the start. It seems energy companies are doing what they can to trick people into paying more when they don't have to, what ever happen to customer satisfaction, or does that not make them enough profit anymore!macman said:You can't go to the Ombudsman until you have been through the supplier's own complaints procedure, waited 8 weeks or received a deadlock letter.
You haven't been charged 56p per kWh, you are reading the bill before the reduction, which will bring it down to the EPG level of about 34p.
I understand your concern about DD''s, but by refusing to use one you are paying about 6% more than you need to. Why not use variable DD instead if you only want to pay for what you use?0 -
@macman has already explained that the 56p is the cap price.
The government payment is deducted and brings it down to the 34p, or in your cas more like 36p.
If they really calculate with the 56p, you will see an additional line where the EPG amount is calculated and deducted from your bill,1 -

I'm totally confused by it and all i get from Scottish power is how would you like to pay!0 -
Hi,all estimates so what are your actual readings now?Did you read down to bottom to look for discount or refund?0

They have also put down estimated reads for the 14th Oct and 31st Dec when they were entered onto the website. They are correct and they sent a bill out on the 15th Jan which I paid £398.11 I then receive another bill a few days later for £817.35. There is no mention of the £66 a month from the government or the 35p price cap!0

All I see is lots of Estimated readings.
The £398.11 probably hadn't been taken into account when the £817.35 was prepared.
Is the £66/£67 actually in your bank account ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
The actual readings now are 27485. There is nothing else after that just ways to pay, where your energy comes from, and how much you've used compare to last year.1

To be fair, the estimate and the actual reading are not miles out, considering the extremely mild period where energy use for most people has been a lot lower than is typical for that period.Jibber123 said:The actual readings now are 27485.
