NPOWER with a 17% hike in prices - Here we go

We just changed to Npower not that long ago on a promise of a cheaper tariff and taking away some charge that SSE charge us even tho there is no need for it.
Sods law, we started the change a week before they annouce the price hike. Now we get a letter in stating that they cannot give us the requested tariff "due to the type of meter we have" so we have to go on the standard one.
Where do we stand? Should we call em and tell em to forget it? Can we even do that?
Without knowing what type of meter you do have, or what tariff you were talking about I can't answer the question, but no - if your switch has happened you can't just 'forget it'.
There's nothing whatsoever to stop you switching again, though - provided you pay npower whatever is due to them in the meantime. Personally I would wait until after all the big six have made their changes, then see who's cheapest - it might still BE npower, you never know.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

You don't happen to have a prepayment meter do you?
Maybe for example you were signed up on a D1 tariff which is for a credit meter or even maybe jucie which is not available to prepayment customers.
Call Npower up and ask them to freeze the prices while you get in touch with another supplier, that way you wont be paying any higher prices.0 -
I was planning to move away from Npower anyway, but now I guess I should wait until the others have all moved to follow suit. So by them raising their prices, I'm likely to stay with them longer than I otherwise would have!?

Their logic exactly!
Everyone in the industry knew prices were going up; historically it has always been Centrica who 'go first' because they are the largest.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

People are rattling on about standing charges, but because the rates for each are so much lower for the gas and electricity units when you pay a standing charge, it can save some money, depending on usage. Ours admittedly is quite high but this is what I just worked out based on recent meter readings for a small period (less than a month) I was trying to work out if it was a good idea me going ahead with the switch due to take place on 31st - BY GOSH IT IS!!!
Price if were with Southern Electric Standard Tariff inc standing charge for the days covered £15.58 price with npower £38.43
Price if electricity was with Southern Electric Standard Tariff including standing charge for the days £18.56 price with NPower £30.02
I think the standard tariff with Southern is the same as the price capped one, if not I will join them on that, I AM SO PLEASED I SWITCHED EVEN WITH THE STANDING CHARGE! If only I could pay for the units I am using until the 31st with them. Making me cross they can't do it sooner because just over that short space of time I could have saved a fortune.
**Edited to say, that was working it out with standing charges on, the tariff I am on is cheaper and without standing charge, so even better!!! **
Pleased I switched and didn't wait. One day I might be more organised...........

EDF increased there prices, and BG have just increased there prices 15% for each fuel today. Another supplier can not remember which one it was are holding there price increase off until the winter is over, to help customers during the time they would use the most gas.0 -
Southern Electric is holding until the end of March, just posted about itOne day I might be more organised...........

God knows where SSE are getting all their money from to fund price freezes for two months longer than anyone else.
They just spent £1bn on a new renewable energy division.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world
