  • I'm not sure they are allowed to do that. What other industry is allowed to increase their prices and not inform their customers?

It's strange dustercat I'm in the LE16 area and my revised rates match yours except for over 728KW mine is 12.49

They are allowed to do that I am afraid - I checked it out some while ago.

Also Banks sometimes tell you of an increase in their rates some while after it has been implimented.

Isn't dustercart on an Economy 7 tariff which is why he pays more than you for daytime electricity?

Has anyone heard the report that some agreement over the network costs has recently run out or is just about to and this means that the regulator can force the upgrading of the gas (and electric) distribution infrastructure. Guess who will be paying.

This would justify increasing the standing charge.

Got a letter today to say ours went up starting on the 5th of January, I think that they wait until after they have put it up before informing you is disgusting aswell. Thankfully I'd just sorted switching it before Christmas to Southern Electrics price capped tariff which was 20% cheaper than NPower in my area before the increase.
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb

Apparently, yes. Although if you call to tell them you're switching, then they'll freeze the old prices for 28 days. I know... I just did it! ;)

Would it be possible to get this price freeze even without switching for a few months?

i was planning on switching in March ideally.

I don't believe so. The principle is that it gives you a chance to switch suppliers without being affected by the price rises, but only if you switch immediately.

    Hi All,

Please be aware that people who recently switched to nPowers Sign Online 8 tariff will not be effected by these price hikes. The same goes if your on Sign Online 9.

12.7% increase on electricity prices and 17.2% on gas prices. That is a massive jump and will effect people on the Standard, pre-payment, economy 7, SOL 4, 5, 6, 7 tariffs.

I wonder who will be next, I would bet my house that British Gas is next!!!

Now then Money miser, about that house, how many bedrooms has it and where is it situated. I hope it is very energy efficient!:rotfl:
  • Just received our latest electricity bill from npower and although we were £132 in credit (which they are giving us back without us having to ask!) they have informed us that they will be increasing our direct debit payment from £39 to £61 a month. Also we only received £75 cashback rather than the expected £80 - wonder if they'll give us the £5 off our gas bill?!

Just got my electricity bill from npower - they've increased my DD from £28 to nearly £40 - not happy!

I have a dual rate meter but don't use that much electricity at the low rate - does anyone know whether it is likely to be in my favour to switch to a single-rate tariff, especially now as the rates have gone up?
