Npower has hiked the price of gas and electricity for new online customers and experts are warning that the rise will be the first of many throughout next year.
Npower launched an online tariff – where the application and billing is conducted on the internet – that is 17% more expensive than the previous Npower online deal. Unusually, the price increase makes the new online tariff 9% more expensive than the company's 'standard' tariff.
Standard tariffs – the charges faced by customers who have not switched to another provider or a cheaper deal – have been consistently more expensive than online tariffs, with suppliers using the internet to keep costs lower.
Based on average fuel consumption, the new Npower online dual-fuel tariff will cost £901 a year compared to the previous online deal that cost £767. The Npower standard tariff costs £824 on the same basis.

Here we go..... One starts raising their prices then they all follow like sheep!
These are taking the P**S out of us and they need stopping!
Come on Brown sort them out!!0 -
I'm with N Power for both elec and gas but ill swap once Martin tells me to!!!
Shouldn't be long .. he normally sends a message out quite quickly when they have price hikes. Obviously we'll need to wait for a while as the other money grabbers, sorry companies, will also probably raise their prices!
Time to turn the heat down again and put a jumper on instead. Damnit.Ken Livingstone is my mother0 -

More interest rate cuts in the pipeline to keep the "boom" going past the next election, guess where import prices may go... (at least McBroon gets his for free, so nothing to sort out really).0 -
Should I still go for a fix price deal with Swalec
Just phoned them actually, and they said to me that they have no plans of price increases at the moment and staff have not been advised of any changes.

I think you're wise to wait. In every other case when this has happened, one company (usually British Gas) makes the rise first and then ALL the others follow suit.
There have been massive rises in the wholesale price of gas and electricity (up to 60%) and the companies will adsorb it as long as possible. Contrary to popular belief, the margins on power are actually pretty small.
Your solution of putting on a jumper is a wise one...Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

Are they still doing a fix? It's not showing up on the comparison site for me anymore, it was before Xmas.0 -

As someone said on this forum, that deal was withdrawn on the 28/12. By the way the average price rises mask some huge regional differences - in the East Midlands region for instance, nPower gas will be up to 24% dearer0 -
I am so glad that I switched to Southern Electric price fix 2008 before Christmas :j It is so unlike me to actually do something at the right time! At least I should know what I will be paying until 1st Dec 2008.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0
