It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Of minor interest the OP's meter was originally only certified for 25 years. It was up to 40 years by the earliest version of the schedule I can find from July 2015 and went to the current 45 years in the January 2020 update.
This increase in certified life must be through in use testing showing it is a reliable meter and must also mean there are enough still in use to enable that testing and to make it worth someone's while to get the certification extended.
I think you got confused with a second poster in the middle of the thread who had his meter since 1960 and it was recertified later. This meter also "only" had 40 years certification.

The OPs meter has 45 years and from the evidence seems to have been certified in 1990.

No, I'm looking at the S200.31 meter that the OP has.

You can see the certification period of 25 years here - https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1998/1566/made
I have not seen the 40 years, but in 1998 the certification was only 25 years.

The S200.16 and S200.38 which are now 40 years were also only 25 years in 1998.
  • I'm a bit confused now.  Is my meter,  Sangamo S200.31, the one with the longest certification - 45 years and should be fine until 2035?.

    Yes.

  • Thank you very much for confirming that, and for the link, Spoonie_Turtle.  I have saved the link now.
  • This is the webpage where the document will be updated as and when required

  • That's really helpful, thank you, again, Spoonie_Turtle.

The post is about whether the OP is being misled by the email that he received and it seems he has listened and has made up his own mind and decided he has been and they can keep their SM.

If smart meters were for the benefit of the consumer --------------- they wouldn`t fit them.

It is confusing. The certification for your meter has increased

    1998 - 25 years
    2015 - 40 years
    2022 - 45 years

The lates is the today valid one, and that is 45 years.
