First full month bill on Octopus flux, it's been a miserable month for sunshine but we've ended up getting a net refund of £5 (including gas) so I'm pleased.

    4.8 kW array, Growatt SPH5000 inverter, 1x Seplos Mason 280L V3 battery 15.2 kWh.

  • Anyone considering Agile instead of Flux?

They were paying customers to import this morning...
  • I've just tried changing to go instead of flux, cheap overnight and guaranteed pricing, i dont like the variance of agile.
But octopus just cancelled my application cos I'm on flux export... well change that then :#
  • Go isn't an option for me - no EV.

    Maybe Eco 7.

In reply to some posts that suggest Flux isn't really a suitable tariff for the darker or winter months.

I can see where you're coming from, but personally easily survived last winter just on the standard variable rate prior to Flux existing in February, with solar & battery storage, using the standard Flexible Octopus rate to sometimes part recharge the batteries.

It definitely all boils down to someone's personal circumstances - this winter with even just the possible 3hr cheap rate charging window available, it's a far more favourable position to be in, whether it's the most optimal tariff is a different discussion.

..... just saying, it's not the end of the world.

Switched from Flux last week to Agile/Fixed as no EV. This worked OK last winter, although there were spells of still weather when the prices remained high 24/7. I rang Octopus to ask for the change and the new tariffs were showing on my account within half an hour. Works well with my small battery as usually cheaper afternoon slots to top up as well as the overnight ones.

If prices do get a bit silly it should be just a quick call again to switch to another tariff.

Does anyone know if it is possible to switch back to Flux next spring if you leave for the winter?

  • Yes, you can switch every 30 days with the smart tariffs. It’s only Tracker that’s different with no return within 9 months.

I don't know however I'm sure it will be Octopus's decision, not ours. I'm not going to risk a one way journey (yet) so I'm going to push on through the autumn / winter just out of curiosity to see what a whole year is like fiscally. It can't be worse than my pre Flux tariff (I pay £1 / m DD since June) however I agree that Flux isn't a good tariff for GMT. That said it has created a cash buffer (almost £300) for the winter so I'm keen to see how close I get to my forecast of 95% net £0 (including generation FiT) for a 12 month period. This then gives me data to make future decisions on the fiscal viability of a EV / battery / bi-directional charger combo. As Doc Brown would say "it's a science experiment"!

Anyone stayed on Flux long enough to get a full heard in yet?
I switched in Sept 23 so have a while to go.
I'm doing the full year to compare it against the previous year on fixed and agile.
