@pensionpawn My MPAN took 15 days from the date I received the email saying they had applied. My system has whole house back up, 8kW off the batteries and more if the sun is shinning, and is one reason I don't dump too much to the grid in the peak period, it would be extremely frustrating to have a power cut and empty batteries/no solar. No electric car here, and won't be for the foreseeable future, just too expensive to buy, our cars were bought and paid for a very long time ago.0

How many power cuts do people get these days?
I think I've had 1 in the last 3 years and it was for about 15 mins.
Certainly not worth me buying a back up box.
If you can get it as part of an installation then it's a bonus.4.3kwp JA panels, Huawei 3.68kw Hybrid inverter, Huawei 10kw Lunar 2000 battery, Myenergi eddi, South facing array with a 15 degree roof pitch, winter shade.1 -

I spec'd my system with EPS too - it's not that i have a lot of power cuts, its if we were in a situation of prolonged blackout, i would hate to be unable to use my solar system.EcoScruples said:How many power cuts do people get these days?

I do know people who have had regular power cuts lately..
A few seconds / minutes i dont care but i would change over if it was prolonged i would0 -
Its not often we do get power cuts, but even the odd brown out can play havoc. They system was capable of doing it if installed correctly, so that's what we did. Even the odd blip can can affect PC's, clocks etc, so problem solved. Only way I know there is a power cut is by the message I get on my phone, but I bet we won't have one for ages now.

Fair enough, if its important to you then why not, especially if it can be set up won install.
I must admit I have thought about it (about £600for another box) but I can't justify it.
Flux has been brilliant so far, a much improved export rate this month has meant I'll get loads more back than I've used.

Thanks for the feedback on the MPAN timeframe.Ron-ski said:@pensionpawn My MPAN took 15 days from the date I received the email saying they had applied. My system has whole house back up, 8kW off the batteries and more if the sun is shinning, and is one reason I don't dump too much to the grid in the peak period, it would be extremely frustrating to have a power cut and empty batteries/no solar. So do you have multiple batteries backing up individual circuits or are they / is it backing up the whole consumer unit?
We don't (yet) have an EV for the same reason. We have two Kia's, one 7.5 years old that we'll sell in the winter and a 3 year Sportage that we'll keep until it falls apart.0 -

We have had just a few in 26 years, however only one lasting a few hours. That said some towns no further than 10 miles away were knocked out for days in the winter storms of a year or two ago. You might argue that you can do without the tv for a couple of hours / days, even the oven etc, however the pump for the central heating when it's freezing outside / the shower after a day or two, well that's another matter!EcoScruples said:How many power cuts do people get these days?

Also, with the government working with the energy companies this winter to work through the process for rolling energy cuts (rationing), with panels on the roof and the sun out, it would be frustrating wouldn't it!0 -
I had 10 Grid ‘disconnects’ in 3 months last year: 2 were Grid failures and the other 8 were the result of the Gateway detecting Grid voltages in excess of 256V. The DNO has now tapped the local transformer down to 240V.0

I also had whole house back up incase of a power cut. Fortunately when we bought the house it had the option to run a generator from the garage to power the house. The electricans managed to alter this so in a power cut, we can flip a switch on the consumer unit and we will run off the batteries. Not had to try it yet, as out when we had the last power outage!

The inverter (Victron Quattro 48/10000) is between the grid and the consumer unit, so literally powers the whole house, has 8kW of inverting power and can transfer 100 amps.
