I could be wrong - so please shoot me down - but sure have read that these individual Ofgem tables are only in one sense advisory - only the sum - of all standing charges and all guideline usage (2900+12000 for duel fuel) is capped.  So as long as the total bill - inc SC and the units - agrees with the cap - the supplier has leeway to balance.
Can anyone confirm or deny that ?
No, the caps are individually set by fuel type, the duel fuel tables are simply there as an example.
It has to be that way or you'd be getting different rates for people only on electricity vs those on gas as well.

    Thanks.

So - what about the SC and the unit rates for each fuel ?

And as far as different rates - if you are on multirate electric (one of c4m on E7,E10 etc ) - irrespective if have gas (some are) vs single rate electric - their are already different tables - and different rates.

Yes, the standing charge is capped separately from the unit rates and there are different caps by payment method region for single-rate and multi-rate electricity. Gas is less complicated as there is no multi-rate option.
All the details are published by Ofgem in the model linked from this page...

I have just come to the end of my fixed rate with So Energy and they have put me onto a variable rate, as there are currently no fixed rates.  (I believe there aren't really any fixed rates around at the moment.)  They sent me a list of the new rates and the standing charge for electricity is 43.25p per day.  When I looked on the MSE website I understood that the cap for this rate in London was 33.16p per day.  When I queried the rate with So, they directed me to the government page on the Energy Price Guarantee, saying that the cap was 46p per day.  I looked at the site and found a paragraph which said that this was the average price but could find no different amounts for different areas.  Are So allowed to charge Londoners 43.25p per day?
    Hi

From the horses mouth - easy read

    Take care

I'm afraid this document only mentions an average for standing charges and doesn't even give a figure for the average.

Do you pay by Direct Debit?  If not, the standing charge can be different.

    Yes, direct debit.

The OP is correct: the cap for the daily standing charge for electricity in the London area paid by DD is 33.16p.

Where did you get the 33.16 figure from please?

Thanks for all your comments.  Unfortunately, the only place I have seen the 33.16p per day electricity standing charge, apart from on the MSE website is the EDF chart which Scot 39 gave a link to.  I can't see any govt documents that give this figure.  Without as official source I don't think I can argue with So Energy.

What type of tariff are you on?  The SC can be different for multi-rate tariffs.  Or if you're definitely on the single rate standard variable (So Flex), double check that your supply region definitely is London and not a neighbouring area http://mysmartenergy.uk/Electricity-Region

If all else fails, you may have to ask So Energy (and please let us know what they say).

i was going to say. worst case scenario (if you think its worth the time).

put it in as a complaint and ask for a deadlock letter if they can't answer to your satisfaction. then escalate it to the ombudsman if you still think theres something wrong with the working.

you have a right to understand your bill and how each of the charges is calculated/what there based on.
