If your bill doesn't come to that amount you spend the remainder the next time you shop......and start using the next one
When I did this 'scheme' some years ago I numbered the cards with a sharpie pen using up all of no.1 before proceeding to no.2. It wasn't rocket science!!
if you wanted you could also record the balance left on the card with the Sharpie.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

fly-catchers said:If your debit card pin is locked according to the Nationwide website it said providing you put in the correct pin number you can access it again using an ATM. I thought that as soon as you put your card in the machine would swallow it up? My card got locked using the Card Reader when I had a senior moment! As I don't normally use that account I wasn't that bothered. But with this 5% cashback offer thought I would use it. Also can a locked pin number on the card still allow it to be used online?
Have now requested a PIN reminderBelieve you have to enter a wrong number three times at an ATM, then its swallowedI consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?1 -
A post in sheer ignorance. When I've purchased gift cards in the past it's been a one-off in a department store, choose a card and at the checkout the amount is agreed and you pay for the thing.
If I were to pick up a (say) £20 Costa card in Tesco with the rest of my trollyfull does it simply get scanned as everything else does or is there some kind of additional authorisation/registration that has to happen?
I'm wondering if the gift card purchase would not be treated as a standard supermarket purchase for the purposes of this offer, if it were able to be identified as such. Usually such purchases are excluded from these kind of offers (along with currency purchases, stamps etc).
Clearly this was not the case with other offers in the past that are discussed above. Any reason why this one would be different?0 -

Then the card could be used to buy fuel at their garages. In my personal opinion, it does not make sense. What you are doing is actually to make them aware about the possible loophole. Let alone, there are a lot of people making a phone call asking this.As someone has said, if you buy it in the store it will mix together with you other shopping. So it is highly unlikely they will be able to differentiate it.Also based on previous experience reported in this forum if they do not know the exact answer (as it is not clearly stated on the TCs), they are likely to give you the generic answer of expected behaviour to earn the cashback, e.g regular spending in the supermarket while you are shopping.

Good offer but there do seem to be some exceptions.
Purchases at supermarket petrol stations or in store cafes won't qualify - not sure how they tell in the latter case and does it depend whether its run by the supermarket chain itself (e.g. Morrisons cafes) or a concession (e.g. Costas in Tesco).0 -
It will be from the merchant code recorded with VISA.2

If you are shopping in Tesco purchasing their own gift cards that action certainly will not earn any Clubcard points- but when the gift card is spent it will earn CC points.
I don't know about other gift cards, but suspect it will be the same rule- no CC points.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Suppose I could do a trial purchase of a gift card of, say, £10 with my NatWest Reward credit card and see if I get the full 1% cashback with that. If I do, chances are it will work with NationwideI consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0

On the other hand, just seen Aldi giftcards in store, so it may be a good idea to purchase £200 and then use it for shopping.0 -
Is it only me? This offer was supposed to help everyone with a Nationwide account with their food shopping in a time of National crisis. There is a limited budget from Nationwide. By all means go and buy your hundreds of pounds worth of giftcards, but that was never the purpose of this promotion.9
