Fraudulent activity on credit card

Hi all, my partner has had multiple fraudulent payments on his credit card on Monday, he noticed when Barclaycard messaged to say he was near his overdraft limit. The pending payments almost to £3,000 in 3 transactions.
He called Barclaycard as soon as this message came through and spoke to the fraud team who have blocked his card and are sending him a new one. We can only assume the card has been cloned or the details have been skimmed from a website as he still has the card in his wallet so it's not lost or stolen.
Barclaycard have been working on his account as he could see the balance change etc on his online banking but this morning it looks like the 2 large payments of £1350 to a builders merchants 200 miles from where we live has gone through and now feeling sick as a dog thinking that Barclays have approved these payments and assume that they're not fraudulent.
Can anyone help?!

Only Barclaycard can help, and it seems they are doing the right thing. The pending payments will almost certainly lapse (if they have not been removed already).I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Credit Cards and Budgeting & Bank Accounts boards. Barclaycard will refund them.
Once a payment is approved it can not be stopped. So they will debit. They will be picked up & refunded.
But worthwhile giving them a call just to make them aware.Life in the slow lane1 -
Thanks both, I know it's in Barclaycards hands really, just fearful it's gonna be him that has to pay for itLife is too short not to love what you do.0

Hi
Not to worry as B/Card are very, very good
Before the days of the net taking off etc. I noted
some spending on our cc, joint account i think they allowed at the time/shared card but not 100%
Anyway, it was Barclays bannk cc. Rang them, put me through to Fraud Dept.
They said tell us what you feel are unauthorised payments and do you consent for police contact.
Gave them the 3/4 transactions amounting to over 1k. They said pay hat you beleive is your transaction.
I paid what I/we had spent on the card and never heard from B/card about htis again
Btw, they did ask if we had used our car somewhere new and we had so we gave them their details as well
Thanks

Thanks so much for this Diystarter7
Yeah he's consented to the police etc so hopefully he'll hear no more from it and it'll be returned. He's been in a tracked work van all weekdays and also on Sunday so proof we weren't North 😅 hopefully it won't take long as it's stealing sleep from him!Life is too short not to love what you do.1 -
Just a word of caution - people often rely on being physically distant from an address recorded against a card transaction, but that's only significant if it was PIN-authorised face to face in that location, i.e. many transactions are conducted remotely, online or by phone, and in many cases the address is a head office rather than the relevant branch.
Not saying any of that applies here though, but just clarifying that the distance argument is sometimes irrelevant!0 -

Police = zero investigation
Barclaycard = zero investigation. As all they will do is claim money back from retailer & if retailer wants to chase it up. They will have to try & get the police to do anything.
Only reason they ask permission to speak to the police, is in case police contact the bank for details. Which is as rare as hens teeth.Life in the slow lane0 -

No worries, thank you
About being "tracked.." - the fraud can easily happen over the phone, EG the crim buys online and gives basic details,
The worst one I recall is a lady working with Mrs Diy - crims dued the card numbers to order via a phone and have items delivered to the real card holders address knowing they would be at work and took the parcels. This is days before the cctv cams/Ring secuirty etc took of and some were signed for. We guessed they hung around ie crims waited delivery and walked inn just before the parcel delivery pretending to live there and took the items, days before cam mobiles etc
The bottom line, crims are active and all banks know that and if anyone is defrauded and have nothing to hide as you dont, you have nothing to worry about. Like I said, we did not evey pay the extra amounts and never heard from them/bank again

What may seem to you as a "stupid question" to me it was no big deal and easier for the staff on the other side of the phone to jot down whom we recently used that we had not used before - it was actually places I recall, a computer repair shop and small outfit, vheicle rental. In situations like thie ie fraud against one card, I'm more than happy for them to involve the FBI from the states as I've nothing to hide.
Banks have a duty to their savers etc and have a right to ask questions. What they do after that is up to them. If you have nothing to hide, then its easy to agree.
Thanks

Of course it's most likely all happened online so physical movement doesn't really matter for that but if it did he'd have alibis 😅
I think it's just lucky he found out literally moments after the large transactions happened so was able to stop the card almost immediately.
So general consensus is that he should be ok and the money should be returned to Barclaycard?Life is too short not to love what you do.1
