Are ASHP the way to go?

That's the new version of gas Tracker. The old versions had lower caps.Magnitio said:MultiFuelBurner said:
I suspect they are on the failed tracker v1 with a maximum price of 6p kWh for gas. A beta product by Octopus which they only had to provide for 12 months but are extending that contract with the same ceiling price of 6p kwh.Reed_Richards said:What's "tracker gas"?
You have to hand it to Octopus they treat their customers well and appear to share the profit from their platform kraken sales with thei energy customers.
If we had to pay for electricity we would move to them.
It's capped at 30p/kWh, but hasn't been above 10p since December.0 -
So I have my quote today.
About £6,800 for a 9Kw Daikin ASHP and 250 litre Daikin hot water tank.
That is net of the grant and includes everything including my two radiator upgrades.
The heat pump comes with all that I would expect including an app to make changes and monitor performance.
The only stumbling block is that I require planning permission, the heat pump is relatively noisy at 62db and a neighbour has a bedroom window within 12 metres of my intended location, I fail the MCS noise test by 0.50db.
Getting planning permission is a headache I could do without right now.0 -
I think I'd fail at that hurdle too and annoyingly next door have air-con on their conservatory which is around 1.5m from our boundary, 3m from our house and it can be a bit noisy. No planning permission for that.......Barnsley, South Yorkshire
Solar PV 5.25kWp SW facing (14 x 375) installed Mar 22
Lux 3.6kw hybrid inverter and 9.6kw Pylontech batteries
Daikin 8kW ASHP installed Jan 25

Do you have other aircon air to air systems already as a heat pump is generally permitted development (I will have to check that wording) basically every house can have one without planning permission.matt_drummer said:So I have my quote today.

That appears to be a decent price.1 -
The MCS use a background noise of 40db, it is 45db in the room I am in now, basically sitting in silence.
We live in the town centre and the background noise ranges between 55db and 90db at the moment.
If our government really want people to go green, then things need to change.
There is no way our neighbour will hear at heat pump here, in reality it will only be producing it's maximum noise level when it is really cold, and they are unlikely to be sitting there with the window open at -10c
I have never seen that window open in the 19 months we have lived here, but of course, somebody may want to have it open one day in the future so I realise that they need to be considered.1 -
I do, but even if I didn't, I would still need planning for this as it fails the MCS noise test.MultiFuelBurner said:

I had to fill out a Government form yesterday to give Octopus Energy permission to apply for the grant.
In less than 24 hours Octopus have applied for the grant and I have received notification from Ofgem that the grant has been awarded for the installation.
So that part has gone very smoothly and quickly.
Shame about the planning permission, I will have to wait for up to eight weeks for a decision.

Heat pumps that cool, e.g. your neighbour's conservatory AC are not permitted development and require specific planning permission. You could do a deal with them; they don't object to yours and you don't shop them.Alnat1 said:I think I'd fail at that hurdle too and annoyingly next door have air-con on their conservatory which is around 1.5m from our boundary, 3m from our house and it can be a bit noisy. The rule is actually quite specific in it's wording.shinytop said:

It is permitted development if the heat pump is used solely for heating.
There is no mention about being capable of cooling, so if the neighbours only use their heat pump for heating and it complies with all the other rules, then it is permitted development.0 -
There is a simply movement of two pins on the board on our Mitsubishi Ecodan system to set it up for cooling.
Might try it this summer.0
