Does anyone have an air fryer..I know I'm a bit late to the party but I've got just over 50 quid in my Asda rewards. I can either buy food, uniform for primary kids or an air fryer. We are a family of five. I'm not sure what size we need but Asda having them ranging from 35-100 pounds. Are they helpful/really that much quicker?

The air fryers are really good. Mine is just a one basket one but it cooks much more quickly and when frying very little oil is needed. I hardly use the gas cooker now.

    Hope things ease off soon.

I don't have an air fryer, but a couple of people I know didn't get on with theirs, though people on here seem to rave about them.  I've never really looked at them, but don't understand how they can be big enough to do a full meal for 4 without having to put them on several times or use the oven as well.  I don't have space for one, so it's a moot point really though :D

Unless there is a burning reason that you'd like one, perhaps it would be better to get the school uniform with the £50?  One less thing for you to find otherwise.

Thanks Jwil yes that's what's made me ask, would we manage a meal on one with five of us or would be have to cook twice. I'll keep pondering.  I've looked at them before, never been sure what to do but Asda have them reduced so the idea came back again.

  • One thing I did notice when me shopping was delivered this morning was my maximum milestone mission for Asda last month was a fiver now it's reduced to three. It's rare I spend that much but interesting that it's dropped.

I haven't got an air fryer but do have a good sized halogen oven which is similar and I'd say it's not big enough for a family meal.  If cooking just, for example, some chops (one per person) they probably fit on but not if you wanted to do potatoes to go with them!

The halogen is big enough for the 2 of us but rarely do a complete meal in it!  The carbs and veg usually get cooked on the hob.

I have a pressure cooker which is big enough to do make at least 4-6 portions of stew or similar but again would want to cook potatoes/rice/pasta separately to go with it.

With a family I'd definitely just stick with using the hob as much as possible and the oven as and when necessary.

Like @jwil I'd be using the £50 to buy school uniforms as they are so expensive and would save having to find the money elsewhere.

  • Thanks for the reality check everyone. And if I do the old fashioned do I want, do I need, can I afford it mantra  it's not technically a current need is it either as we have an oven :) . Will use the rewards elsewhere on food or such like to help the uniform quest! Nothing to say they won't be accrued again in the future, in time for another sale  ;)
I was always an Aldi/Asda shopper but I tend to default to deliveries when kids are off. I don't chase the reward items but with how dear everything is we do seem to rack them up every few months

  • So a few days late with the end of month update but I have exciting news. Debts are temporarily under 19k again. Wahoo and mortgage is just unde 70.

Highschool Uniform might temporarily put us back over but I have bought shirts and polo shirts already, along with most of the stationary. I have 110 pounds set aside and I am expecting another 31 in survey/cash back funds next week. I have also earned about 70 quid in extra earnings though won't get that for a while yet. I think I'll buy the uniforms over next week or two so it's not a mad rush and pay back between now and Oct as my new shoes/clothing budget is going to be 150 per month. Until then I'm sub 19k 😂
