Needs to be reported to the Police - This time probably Powder Paint - the sort kids use in playschool.

Next time a nice shade of Dulux Magnolia Gloss and the car needs a respray.
  • whilst obviously not justifying the vandalism or even the pettiness of complaining about your parking, is there any reasons you can't / don't park outside your house, on your side?

I once had a neighbour keep blocking me in because they'd moved in and decided they wanted the space I was parking in for their cars.
When I found one of them had propped woodscrews against my tyres, I went around and told them if they didn't pack it in I would buy an old banger and park it there permanently.
At some point another neighbour moved out and the space they had been using was more convenient for me, so I shifted to using that.
  • Hi

There could be DNA evidence, EG hair in paint. If this is the case, tracking cctv footage etc, history of that person/etc/etc.

    Thnaks
Without evidence that catches the miscreant actually doing it, DNA and fingerprints will be as useful as a chocolate frying pan for frying hardboiled eggs.  It won't even reach circumstantial evidence level.  Capture of the evidence if full features and clear and high quality footage of the act itself will be required, and that won't guarantee that the police will do anything about it.  Likely result? A police caution followed by more harassment.
How do you know they'll admit the offence?
    I don't -I'm just saying a likely result.

The police are even less likely to take and test DNA samples over a minor act of vandalism than they are to take fingerprints.
    Hi
Unlikley yes, but one could demand and see where this went.

    Worth a try IMO

    Thanks
Demand it?  Good luck with that.  Unless (and even if) related to the Chief Constable or Commissioner, this won't happen.  Police resources are finite and they aren't going to be using them here just because a victim stomps his feet and demands evidence that wouldn't even prove the crime fully on civil level let alone a criminal level.  "How did your finger prints get there?" "I had a stone in my shoe and leaned on the car to keep my balance while removing said shoe and tipping out stone. I was annoyed with myself for not noticing the paint on the car but I was listening to music on my iPhone and was distracted.  It was easily washed off, though, so that was lucky."

They need to admit the offence to be cautioned so how can you say it's likely?

If the street the OP lives on is anything like ours then you have to park where you can.   I can't remember the last time we were able to park outside our own house.

And I can't even begin to imagine why people get so worked up over it that they'd vandalise someone's car.  (I suspect the miscreant either has some kind of "anger" issues or a very small "anatomy" and is overcompensating.  Probably safest to park elsewhere, unfortunately)

If you park on the opposite side of the road the road next to your car will lose about 3 spaces. Do it, does it really matter to you which side you park on?
