Parking on different side of the road

  • I feel for you OP.

Perhaps the person who started a thread re considering buying a house without a drive should read this one
  • I'm also thinking to get a CCTV camera and set it up in my bedroom window, pointing at my car. I get a perfect view from my window.

Could the video footage by used as a proof in court/police, in case this person does something to my car again and also is it legal to set up CCTV camera in a bedroom?
I would really appreciate just came out and had a conversation with me, asking politely for whatever reason, to park somewhere else, but that's bit odd, been parking there for at least 6 months, and for some reason get threatening note of getting my car removed and paint sprayed all over my car.

Is there any chance that you could park on 'your' side of the road?  I know it's irritating, and you shouldn't have to and so on.  It may also be the case that the individual concerned is one of those weirdos who become enraged at the sight of any sort of modified car, meaning this is personal rather than anything to do with parking.  Has anybody new moved in recently?  It's baffling if, as you say, nothing has happened in the six months prior.

The criminal damage point has been covered; yes it is, but the police are unlikely to be interested.

I was thinking that too and I guess now no matter where the OP parks there could be a problem

I would set up some sort of camera if it was my car illegal or not.

You can get some that work off battery and could set it in the car to record, no point having motion detection though
  • Hi OP
    Word of caution!!!

You said in OP, "he" you cannot be sure if its a he, a she or he/shes group.
It could be someone that just dislikes you and may even not live on your road on on your side of the road wanting you to get into big trouble.

As you know you can park within the rules anywhere as long as your car is road legal

The damage, noting less than crim damage.

If I was you, I'd move my car, this is why we only buy property with OSP for several cars or has the potential

During my working days i had jokers come out and tell me , eg, "you can't park there my sob parks there...etc.etc"  I did not argue with these unreasonable bullies as I had a good job, nice family and a crime free history and my jibs demanded that so no point in soiling my hands

Best solution - dont park there - it hurts but it is a common sense way out for a law-abiding guy that has plenty to lose if you dirty your hands with those that are making threats and causing actual damage to your pride and joy.

Report it to the cops so there is a record just in case you have to act in self-defence. But PLEASE do nOT assume who it can or cant be

    Thanks

    Strange advice.

Whether or not anything has been reported to the police using force legally is judged on the circumstances at the time.

Yes, it's criminal damage. Report it to the police. 101 is the non emergency number.

In a way it's a shame you washed it off, there might have been fingerprint evidence. They could also match the paint, because there is a decent chance that whoever did it still has the can.

Keep the note if you have it, that might have fingerprints and is a sample of their handwriting. Take photos and make sure the police get copies.

If any paint got on anything else report it to the council as criminal damage to their property too. They own the road and pavement.

It's well worth doing because if the police can be persuaded to come out and take a look it might scare the perpetrator off doing anything else.

Good idea, and that video can be used. The police are much more likely to act if you have video evidence for them.

It's legal as long as you take care to avoid looking into other people's houses and gardens as far as possible. Try to only capture the street and as much as you need to get their whole body/face in shot.

A fingerprint on a car in a public place proves what?

You're not going to get a paint analysis on a low level damage.

You are overthinking it. Fingerprint in the paint, the perp has a can matching the colour. Even if they don't just admit it at that point, there may be other evidence and it may discourage them from taking further action if they see the police taking an interest.

Went through all this with some racists a few years ago.

Fingerprint in the paint proves nothing and as I said, it's not going to happen for a low level offence.
