OVO have partnered with Heat Geek and launched a 15p/kWh tariff to join the ASHP party. Starting from £500 (although how many will start at that will remain to be seen). https://www.elementaldigital.co.uk/ovo-cuts-heat-pump-running-costs-and-partners-with-heat-geek/
I don't think it does anyone any favours when it says 0 co2 "at point of use".

The heat geek installer base is pretty small so I would be surprised if they install many in the short term.

It seems seems a shame the tariff appears to be locked to only their own installs.

But that is true.  They're not claiming "Zero CO2 for heating your home" although even that might be true if you were a large generator with a large battery backup.  But even if you were using very 'dirty' electricity,  it must give you a little satisfaction to know that 'your' emissions are being discharged from a tall chimney rather than being directed at your next door neighbour.

  • My heat pump already has its own dedicated electricity meter.  Does that mean I could sign-up for the OVO tariff without getting Heat Geek involved?

No, you need your HP to be installed by Heat Geek.

CO2 emissions makes no difference if it comes out of somewhere in Timbuktu or the boiler on your house  as the impact is the same (global warming). They're not considered a health hazard for local air quality.

NOx and particulates it makes a difference.

Did the web form thing a couple of weeks ago, got a price, rang them up to check it (seemed very cheap - now even cheaper due to the extra £2500, but yes, included all extra radiators if necessary), got a survey happening next week. So service so far is great, Lets see what the survey reveals!
An update: Had the survey today. Took about 4 hours. Did all kinds of measurements and calculations and said we were fine for a heat pump and our original web quote was valid. We now need to sort out a installation date, estimated about 4 months away.
Note we have 10mm microbore and Octopus are happy to install with that in place. They have done their own research and since May have been ok with microbore (but not plastic pipes). Radiators are being replaced. 10.5kW heat pump calculated, big water cylinder and even offered to include the iboost i have in the system in the price. So far so good.

Interesting about the microbore. I'll still be chucking my radiators out and installing underfloor heating, though, to get a better COP from lower flow temperatures, and to free up wall space.

Many thanks for posting. It's my 10mm microbore that makes me interested in the high temp HP.

As we have large rads, and low gas consumption, I've always been hopeful that a normal HP would work nearly 100% of the time. I've even run the GCH on the lowest radiator temp to test - It only struggled for a week or two in Jan, but wasn't running 24/7, which I think would have sorted it. But a high temp unit, would, presumably manage such an issue, but allow lower temps and higher COPs, for the vast majority of the time.

But ...... as has been mentioned earlier, no installs yet planned for S.Wales, only the vague 'looking to recruit installers', but good to read your post today, regardless.

    Interesting about the microbore.
When the Cosy 6 comes out it won't matter as that heat pump can produce the same temperature as a gas boiler.

At a tariff specifically designed for it. I'm curious what the heat pumps efficiency/ SCOP will be when running anything over 55 degrees flow temperature.
