Aqua Card

I got an email to say I missed a payment, not true, so I phoned them to be told because I paid before my statement date it was taken as a extra payment, on the email it said I would be charged £12 but on the phone I was told it would be £29, in effect I paid £50 before the due date and was going to be charged £29 for the priveledge, However when I asked for a transcript of the convestaion a copy of the T&C that outlined the and a up to date statement all of which I said would be included with my complaint form for the FOS the suddenly backtracked on the attempted robbery

Not sure what your complaint is.  You must pay at least the minimum payment when your statement arrives.  Any interim payments made before the statement is produced do not count towards this.  A simplified example:
You have £500 owing on the card.  On the 10th of the month, you make a payment of £100, leaving you with a balance of £400.  On the 15th on the month, your statement is produced, showing a balance of £400 and a minimum payment of (say) £25.  If you don't make the minimum payment of at least £25 then you'll get a late payment fee.
For any payment to be considered to be part of a minimum payment, you need to make that payment after the statement has been produced.  This is how it works with all cards.  It's not robbery, it's your failure to comply with the T&Cs of the card.

Aqua have a pretty good app which tells and shows you the statements and due due dates.

You HAVE to pay between the statement day and the due day for each payment to be allocated to that statement.

That is how ALL credit cards work
  • The best way to avoid this charge is contact Aqua apologising for your error  and would they remove the charge this time. (and hope you haven't already burnt your bridges)

And set up a DD for, at least, a minimum payment.
However, with Aqua's interest rates, any reasonable person wouldn't use it for borrowing and would pay every balance in full.

I would also phone them, say you didn't realise and ask if they will waive the fees on this occasion as it was a genuine mistake.

And while I was on the phone I'd also ask them to help me set up a direct debit because that way you will never miss a payment and if any mistakes are made, they won't be yours and then they will have to pay you for a change. If it's set up for the minimum payment at least then you can pay extra at any time as well. It's worth it, for peace of mind.

In an ideal world, yes that's true - but not everyone is able to get a decent credit card - nor are they in a position to pay off the balance on their credit card in full every month. It doesn't mean that they are not reasonable people, just that they may be struggling right now.

I've been in a similar situation myself and now wouldn't ever judge anyone else for choices they may have had to make. We're supposed to be friendly and non-judgemental on this site.

Hi - welcome to the forum.
If you paid before the statement was produced then you haven't paid your required payment for that statement, meaning you have missed a payment.
Set up a direct debit to take payment in full, or at at least the minimum payment - this will avoid this confusion in the future.
If you ask nicely, they may waive the late payment fee as a gesture for the first time mistake.
