Is it the end of daily showers

Fond memories of the tin bath in front of the coal fire in the 1960's as a child, i would do it now in front of the log burner whilst watching tv but i don't think i'd get it past Mrs E .

Flexi tub, fill with rain water then add a kettle full of boiling water to warm it up now it’s winter. Works a treat and saves mains water!Gas: warm air central heating, instant water heater, Octopus tracker
Electricity: 3kw south facing solar array, EV, Octopus intelligent2 -

Our household hot water is heated by oil, and it really doesn't use much when it's just hot water and not central heating. So we haven't cut back at all on baths ourselves. I was trying not to waste water this year, but that was due to our well running low, not a cost consideration.

Did you perhaps mean that it doesn't use much @Qyburn ? I find in summer that my gas use for hot water and cooking (i.e when the heating's not on) is less than 4kWh per day - so 40p per day for all hot water and cooking still seems decent value. It's heating my inefficient house that's the expensive bit.
I'm a big fan of a hot shower, so it's not something I'd want to restrict - I'd just sacrifice something else first if I really couldn't afford it. And I will go to a combi boiler powered shower when I do some very overdue work on the bathroom soon - the electric one just doesn't give the same quality of shower. I have honed my shower technique to be more efficient and engaged practices to cut down on damp/mildew etc which are working well, but standing under a hot shower is one of life's pleasures.
And if you want to save money on baked beans - Branston beans beat Heinz hands down - and about two thirds the price.0 -
About 20 years ago my son read about a solar shower. We made a bet (I can't remember exactly how I got myself into this mess) and I said if he could make it and the water got to a certain temperature I'd try it.
He won the bet. Fortunately it was before we had camera phones
It was 2 black dustbin liners filled with water and hung high on a tree all day. Late afternoon I stood underneath and he pierced holes in the bag, it worked!
He went on to study renewable energy at uni and made it his career so I'm pleased I encouraged himLove living in a village in the country side10 -
The cost to the planet of 2 dustbin liners per shower would be unacceptable.6

Old fashioned strip wash in a warm room or in front of fire or log burner. Use a wet towel to do your back !1

I'm sure I'm not the only one that stopped daily showers at the beginning of the pandemic. Basically I would never go to work without a shower in the morning. But 2020 and the ongoing situation of WFH meant I wasn't going into work. So didn't need a shower. Or clean clothes. So my money saving started then. I've returned to working at work mostly rather than at home but am only doing p/t so 3 days a week so still saving money.
Combi boiler so no tank to heat up in any case.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Me too @Sea_Shell - I suspect if you are of an age where the first photo of the bath in front of the fire brought back actual memories, the video was probably a treat! I had actually forgotten - or didn't realise - that Sting took his shirt off in it. Maybe that was censored from TOTP at the time - or Mum switched it off before it got to 'that unsuitable bit'. It was 43 years ago - good grief! When we cleared my parents' house recently, we ceremoniously removed all the Police posters from my sisters room - kissed them goodbye and sent them for recycling with a big sigh. She kept a couple of her favourites though. Ironically, Andy Summers was born a few hundred yards from said house.Sea_Shell said:GingerTim said:
