Electric shower. 8.5kw.  3 minute showers - electric at 19p per kwh, roughly 8p per shower. Not exactly extravagant is it?

14p at the capped rate, rather than my fix.

Though if going to the gym I generally miss my morning shower and shower after I've finished.
Ours is a pumped electric shower & on low (5kW/ h)  uses ~ 0.34kWh/ 4 min shower so not expensive by any means at about 10p. Using the low flow / higher pressure spray pattern at this time of year allows us to get by with the low power option vs the high flow 9.5kw setting we used to use.

You need to think about what is important in your life. Do you work so that you can afford good food, wine, BMW, cleaner but not have enough money for showers.
I am poor compared to the average poster on here, but I know what is important to me.

I was the only one to have daily showers and that stopped c.2017 when I became too ill.  Two others have strip washes and occasional showers, the other showers every other day (which I also did for about a year, baby wipes on the in between days,  and then ended up too ill for that as well.  I'm fortunate if I manage two showers a week now - the reality of debilitating energy impairment).

Our energy saving method has been to use the shower on eco mode when it's warm enough.  The regular shower-haver managed until December, I only managed until November.

Bought a house with instantaneous gas water heater and compared to central heating the amount spent on the shower is minimal, so I don't worry.

I guess it is similar to a combi-boiler, there is no tank to heat and no worry about bacteria, so I set the temperature of the water to be heated at 40C.

Gas: warm air central heating, instant water heater, Octopus tracker
Electricity: 3kw south facing solar array, EV, Octopus intelligent
  • In my job, having to work up close and personal with all sorts of stuff that comes out the human body and at times in contact with contagious illnesses, I have to shower daily or whenever in work that day. I try to make it as quick as possible and have a 4 minute egg timer I got free from severn trent so use that at times and have my water lukewarm  (Electric shower so not direct from hot water tank) While washing my hair, I switch shower off when srubbing scalp (my hair is very thick and long so takes a bit of time. It is cold then when shower is off as no proper heating in bathroom but I have built up a degree of tolerance) same for shaving legs. I put plug in and let water build up just a bit from when shower is on while doing something else then turn shower off, shave then put it back on to rinse off. It helps a bit.

Oh dear. Avoiding washes? I can jump into my electric shower and be done in a couple minutes. Hygiene is important surely?

Have showered every other day for years and I usually wash my hair every other shower.

If we have very hot weather I'll shower more often but probably tepid water then.

    My thoughts exactly.
Gas heated water, stored in a tank. Pumped shower with 3 outlets, delivering water at more than 30 l/min. It’s absolute bliss. People have different priorities due to the cost of living, but giving up a decent shower is not one of mine.
