Wow, I thought our parents were strict with table manners.YoungBlueEyes said:
^^^ This. I would add -Longwalker said:For those that dont know the correct etiquette when it come to eating
Elbows off the table
Knife and fork in the correct hand - a fork is not a shovel
Get food into mouth. Put cutlery down and chew until you swallow. Dont be chewing with cutlery in handsFood should be cut small enough so the fork can spear it to direct it to the mouth. Falls off? You aint doing it right
Your arms should be tight to your sides at all times. We used to have to hold a big book under each armpit while we were eating.
If you have food dropping down your front your posture needs attention. It's food to mouth, not mouth to food (ie don't be bending closer to your plate).Didnt have to do the book, but dad would reach over and crack you across the top of your head with the handle of his knife if you were slouching , had head in hand, chewing with mouth open etc2 -
Why can't you use your fork as a shovel? What's properly etiquetted about balancing things on the tines - yes I've seen people try that with small things , like peas, or squishy things, like mash, and it just falls off. Hands up who doesn't care if food falls off, has no problem wearing a napkin or an apron or a tabard or a full body tyvek suit. It's exactly what suits you that counts...suit yourself, because really, do you care what your neighbour or anyone really thinks about you?

Aye father was strict. He tried to raise us proper like wot he had bin.
Another one - if your elbows were on the table - you'd get a tap on the elbow with the flat edge of a knife. "All joints on the table will be carved."Shout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.2 -
Guess we were of the generation where manners were knocked into us from an early ageYoungBlueEyes said:Aye father was strict. He tried to raise us proper like wot he had bin.

I think that's true.Longwalker said:

It's noticeable that some of the younger generations seem to have skipped that lesson.
Simply saying 'please' and 'thank you' seems to be getting more rare.2 -
The OP's post was about teenagers having to have to wear an apron / tabard for meals... general view is that by that age they should be able to eat tidily (unless there are health reasons not mentioned).-taff said:...Hands up who doesn't care if food falls off, has no problem wearing a napkin or an apron or a tabard or a full body tyvek suit. We use napkins whilst eating at home. I wanted to buy some new cotton ones and was very surprised how hard they were to find.0

Certainly an age/generational thing. Things that used to classed as important are now old fashioned, at best.Shout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.0

Yes. I know. I was replying to the posts regarding proper etiquette...Besides, I still think who cares about wearing aprons, tabards etc, as long as you don't indulge in a food fight it's a pretty stupid question since I very much doubt the OP is genuine.Floss said:
