I went out today wearing a jumper with toothpaste all down it.

Op - what would you suggest? During the summer its not too bad, I can be naked whilst brushing, but not only is it cold right now, towels take ages to dry unless I use the tumble and I cant afford that.

So tips on keeping toothpaste off the clothes and towels clean enough to last 3 or 4 days ( we dont share) Id love to hear

Clean your teeth whilst showering, or wear a dressing gown whilst cleaning your teeth.

No. I don’t know anyone who wears an apron to eat and I can see why teens are pushing back.

Oldest has developed a lovely habit of wiping his hands on his trousers when he eats so we probably should  use napkins. We do eat a fair amount of build your own meals (burritos, chilli etc) which can get a bit messy. He does go change out of school uniform if tomato based food is involved.

Do your children ever have friends round for dinner, and if they do, do you make the friends also wear aprons / tabards?

If they don't, but go fo their friends for dinner your apron policy is probably the reason... They'd be bullied / mocked at school about it.

I use an apron to cook with to protect my clothes against oil splatters etc.
Sometimes I wear an apron and have a cotton napkin when eating tomato based dishes eg spaghetti bolognaise and a curry, particularly if I am wearing a light coloured top.
For all other meals I have just have a napkin.
If we have guests then I always take the apron off.
We always eat at the table. (Did when we were young too.
My mum bought a gadget in France where there was a chain and two clips that you attached to your napkin, so it would cover your front.
I was reading the other day that the etiquette for wearing a napkin is that it should be at waist level and when it is placed on your lap or removed it should not be flapped around about waist height (if you are doing it yourself. Also, you should not remove the napkin off the table and onto your lap until the host does). Of course any well to do restaurant, the waiter would remove the napkin and place it across your lap.
I got my step dad one of those many years ago. He was a very big man, belly wise as well as height, so was forever dropping food on himself when aiming for his mouth

When I used to eat on the couch I usually draped a tea towel, across my front, napkin style.
Now I always eat at table I only do so on the rare occasions that I'm eating a particularly messy meal.

But should I be putting an apron over my dressing gown?🤔
