Do you have a secret trick?

I didn't realise this was a secret trick until recently when the price of kitchen roll has gone through the roof. Whenever I see packs of serviettes for pennies (usually when shops need to shift seasonal merchandise) I buy them, if its to wipe things down /perform general duties rather than to absorb spills then they will make a good substitute,No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.16 -
I too do this I'm not fussed if there are xmas trees printed on serviettes and it March or April. I also tend if I have been my local coffee shop, if there are unused ones left over I pop them in my bag and take them home , the clearers only bin ones from my table anyway as I asked one of them a couple of months ago what happened to the unused ones on the table and she said they get screwed up and chucked away !!!Rosa_Damascena said:I didn't realise this was a secret trick until recently when the price of kitchen roll has gone through the roof. What a waste, mine now come home with me, and I have a small basket in my kitchen with them in which I use, as you would a kitchen roll, for quick mop ups and wipes of spills.
I'm of the late 1940s generation when nothing but nothing went to waste if at all possible .my late Mum was a brilliant recycler , in those days it was make do and mend and waste of anything was abhorred.

Of al the people on this thread, just why did I think it'd be YOU?! Aye, eggs. Luxury, We were so poor we used to make one egg feed 15 of us for t'week! Aye, and we'd eat the shells!YoungBlueEyes said:Me, I tried the egg thing and it works
The floating/sinking eggs to find any old ones works too.
I've not tried the guitar lead one cos my guitar doesn't have a lead. It's a cigar box guitar that I built myself, and I love it's simplicity
Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!12 -

Porridge! The height of luxury!! We mixed up some spit with mud from the side of the road, added the eggshells and sprinkled gravel on top pretending it were sugar!!pigpen said:

Enough of the hyperbole

Wetwipes that have lost their "wet" are still handy to keep in a kitchen drawer. Damp them down and use them instead of a J-cloth.No man is worth crawling on this earth.

Sound daft but if we had a glut of tomatoes when I was little myMum would dice them up and sprinkle sugar on top. My brothers and I nicknamed the Scot’s strawberries as our late parents were Scot’s. They were actually very nice on a hot day if you didn’t have the real thing 😀RobM99 said:

When we were kids we had no central heating or double glazing, when it was frosty the condensation would freeze on the inside of the windows. On cold winter evenings we would huddle around a candle to keep warm; if it was really cold Dad would let us light it.11
