I don't keep leftover rice at all, it's just too risky. Not even a day, not even in the fridge.
Mixing up your fruits before you freeze them - that's a really good idea eh?
Broccoli stalks I love, possibly more than the florets. I only slice the thinnest wee bit of the end of the stalk, then chop it up and cook it with the rest of the veg. The core down the centre is so tastyMy last but one dog loved the stalks too, but they had to be cooked just this side of al dente. Carrots he liked raw and cold. My last dog wouldn't entertain such nonsense but would do anything to get into a river

As long as the rice has been cooled - immediately after cooking by running it under cold water and refrigerated immediately - it has a 24 hrs fridge life. You can extend that by freezing it on the day its cookedHowever I personally would only freeze rice I have cooked. There are too many takeaways who precook rice and reheat to orderI always cook too much rice to be used that meal time, I freeze the excess , then I have rice to be used in a fried rice supper on a CBA night6

I love cauliflower stalks much tastier than the florets. When weighing butter or marge I remove the weighing bowl and place the lid of the butter or paper on the scale and rest the weigh the butter saves the bowl getting greasy.I freeze all onions ,peppers and mushrooms if I know I have too many, or they are going to go soft.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.8

I cook as much as I need each time, I occasionally get it right too. If it's too much I sling it on the grass for the birds - wee blackies love it
We mostly only have rice if we get a takeaway, no matter how many tips and tricks I try I can't really be trusted to do it ha haa!I oppose genocide. I support freedom of speech. I support freedom of assembly.4 -
MIL caught me throwing away a small portion of cooked rice which had been sitting on the cupboard for a couple of hours after a family party. Now everytime we go over she makes remarks about how she never wastes food.
I rarely waste food but am not prepared to risk food poisoning for the sake of a couple of spoonfuls of rice.10 -
elsien said:Not sure if this one is already here, I've lost track a bit, but if you've a dirty casserole dish or pan from cooking if you sling a used teabag in with warm water and leave it to soak, the tannin in the teabag tends to loosen the baked on food so it's easier to clean.4

Can I just point out (in case it's not obvious) this is tea from the pot, ie without milk in. Years ago I remember working in a building where we discovered a terrible smell. We couldn't find a cause. Plumbers were called to check the drains. Then it turned out that a colleague, rather than walking downstairs to the kitchen to empty his mug, had been tipping the dregs into a pot plant.
I'd like to say it was a Swiss Cheese plant but I can't actually remember!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.5
