I used 700 kwh s  gas in December , so far I ve used only 100 khws in 10 days with electric averaging around 6 kwhs a day compared to 7 in Dec.
I ve had an email from Octopus to say from today I m on Tracker rates ..all good today with gas at 7 p kwh and electric at 19 p kwh.
Octopus have raised my direct debits from £70 to £95 but they are basing this on last years annual gas of 7300 when its on track easily to be only 4000 kwh on April 1.
    I base my years usage on April 1 2022 to April 1 2023 .
I don t mind Octopus raising my direct debit a little because they are only acting as an interest free savings bank and I will claim it back when I m ready
  • Yes, a mild January so far. Average daily gas usage so far compared to the past few years:

    2021 47.52 kWh
    2020 36.74 kWh
    2019 41.77 kWh
    2018 44.65 kWh
    2017 40.55 kWh

Hopefully this will be interesting to some, but this is my Gas usage for the last two years and the cost. Despite reducing my usage year on year, the costs have been growing a lot more.

Has that taken into account the £67/66 payments, council tax rebate if eligible and any other extra payments the government have made?

No, it's just the costs on the tariff. I'm just managing the DD at the moment (although still triple from 2 years ago WITH the discounts applied). Honestly don't see how I will meet the payments from April and I'm doing my best to reduce costs. Yes my usage will drop further in the spring/summer but the DD is still a projection over the year. I will be contacting my supplier at the time to ensure they are using up to date usage estimates and will slowly feed in the £150 payment and the first two £66 payments that I have managed to hold back to defer the full cost of my new fixed DD figure which is unsustainable once I move out of any other funds that I can throw at it.

I've given up being super stingey and let things slide over the last 4-5 weeks. Our boiler swap last Feb has been a godsend and with the heating on so much more, we're still under 50% gas usage compared to last year. I would say the last couple of days have been a smidge colder and I can see we've done about 32kwh of gas each day. Last week ranged from 11kwh(weds) to 22kwh(mon) with a climb to 28 on Sunday - right now we're on 225kwh for the month.

Electricity hasn't been great but there's no escaping the condenser dryer in this weather. 117kwh at the moment.

Just dry them indoors and stick a dehumidifier on, all my washing including sheets and jeans was dry in 6 hours and cost 28p.

so far 39.17 kwh of electric and 307.71 of gas but can't easily compare to last year yet as its only the 11th of the month.

    works out as about

    3.5kwh per day electric
    28kwh per day gas
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

No idea yet but our bathtub has just cracked (again - the previous cracks were glued by the guy sent out by the housing association and told to use it 🤷) so no electric showers until it's sorted.  That'll bring the month's usage down!
