Yep, I think I'll just wait until my gas account is sorted and I get both bills before sitting on hold forever again. I just wanted to make sure I undersrood the discount correctly and I think I do.

Thanks for your help everyone, happy new year!

Quick check on the BG website

My refund was less than £66/£67

Your Direct Debit may be less than £66/£67 per month, you'll be refunded your Direct Debit amount in full and the remaining will be applied to your energy account.

It's not a discount against usage, it's  a flat rate rebate of £66/£67 paid over 6 months, total £400, credited solely to your electricity account.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I'm with BG, electricity only as i have oil central heating, and only pay £20 per month by direct debit at the moment. A few days after that £20 is paid, the £67 is credited to my BG account and then £20 of that is refunded back to my bank. So there's no need to worry, the remainder of your £67 payments will be on your account.

Incidentally, when my bill came last month, I was in credit by quite a bit and they allowed me to have a refund of £100 even though this was essentially the £400 government credits that had caused it. I didn't think they would allow it, but am grateful that they did as it's been put towards my (much needed) oil fund.

I'm on their standard variable tarif, so my electricity is 33.698 per kwh and gas is 10.426 per kwh - this is based on what it tells me on the app, I've not received a bill yet so I don't have one to reference.

Actually, shouldn't I have received a bill already if I've been here since June?
BG only bill every 6 months.
Nope.  You can have monthly billing.
    My bill shows this.

On a fixed direct debit, you pay variable, totally different
  • I have just stopped working for BG, the ebss payment is credited to the electric only, anything less than the DD amount up to the £67 will be a credit on your electricity account so you won’t be missing out.  You don’t have to be billed every six months, you can have quarterly billing. Give them a call and ask to be billed quarterly, most agents don’t like to do it as it involves filling in a form!
you can also have monthly billing but to do this you will need to sign up for an online account and have a variable monthly DD set up.

I am with BG. My  DD is repaid each month and the extra £17 is a credit on my account.

What date of the month are you guys receiving the energy discount payment from British Gas? Seems to vary from month to month on my account.

All providers vary from month to month, but should be within the first 10 days of each month.
