British Gas not giving full energy discount

Hi,

I've spent all day on the phone to British Gas going round in circles with countless different agents and nobody seems to be able to help. Hoping somebody here can shed some light on my situation.

I moved into a new build property (first ocupant), and both gas and electricity supply was already connected with BG, so setup when moving in was simple and BG got me set up over the phone.

I thought it was odd having 2 direct debits but I've found out today that my gas/electricity accounts are set up as 2 separate accounts, I'm only getting the discount on my electricity, where my usage is less than the discount so I'm losing out every month and paying full price for my gas.

British Gas are now refusing to merge my accounts as its something "they no longer do", so I have no choice but to lose out on part of the energy payments and get no discount towards my gas.

Has anybody else had this issue?

It seems a little unfair that I'm losing out on 30% of the discount just because BG are refusing to merge my accounts and only deduct the discount from the electricity bill.

Thanks

Ryan

What price per kWh are you being charge for electricity and gas?

You're not losing out. You'll be building up a credit on your electricity account.

Everyone's discount goes towards electricity, not gas.

I'm on their standard variable tarif, so my electricity is 33.698 per kwh and gas is 10.426 per kwh - this is based on what it tells me on the app, I've not received a bill yet so I don't have one to reference.

Actually, shouldn't I have received a bill already if I've been here since June?

But I'm not building up credit? The discount I get is exactly the same as my direct debit, not the full amount I'm supposed to get.

Other people who have merged accounts get the discount on their gas too, as I've spoken to friends who use less electricity but still get the full discount.

Ps. sorry about the weird quotes, the forum is broken on my phone apparently and won't let me quote reply properly.

BG only bill every 6 months.  Use Chat and ask for a bill
Never pay on an estimated bill

Those are the rates you should be paying when paying by direct debit.

Those rates represent the 17p per kWh reduction for electricity and 4p per kWh reduction for gas.

If you are expecting more perhaps you have a link you can share for the deal you believe you should be getting?

Sorry, I'm not sure I follow what you mean with the rates? My rates aren't the problem, it's the discount that I'm concerned with?

I thought the OP was talking about the £400 rebate not the price cap kWh rates?

Have you logged into your online account from a computer and seen if there’s a bill you can download? This feature may not be available in the app.

What is your monthly electricity DD amount? What “discount” are you being given and how is that shown/communicated?

Edit : the rebate is just for your electricity account, and is not dependent on usage. It doesn’t apply to gas at all.

The discount I mean is the monthly bill payments that everyone gets credited to their account. British gas call it "Gov energy bill discount" in the app so apologies if I'm using the wrong terminology here.
