I used to make a very alcoholic Delia Smith Christmas cake but stopped when it was it still around at Easter. Mr lh doesn't really eat any sweet things. I do make lots of mince pies as gifts for friends and family.1

My Ds and Dd aren’t that bothered by Christmas cake and I like a tiny bit of icing and marzipan but couldn’t eat an end piece that is covered in the stuff. I love the actual cake though as does dh who loves everything. Plenty of brandy, Sherry and a dash of orange liqueur in mine this year.
I did go out last night to the WI Christmas meal. I’d paid for it over September and October £25 which I didn’t think was too bad, but by the time it got around to last night I just couldn’t be bothered one way or the other. I’d been out with some old work friends on Monday and thought I might have nodded off in my dinner 😂 Anyway it was a lovely meal in a little golf club that I didn’t know existed until I went to a 21st there a couple of years ago and it’s only a 10 minute drive away. It was all very well organised - a seating plan and every place setting had a note of what had been ordered. I’m glad I made the effort, it was good to get dressed up 😁 The only niggle was the veg was self service from dishes in the middle of the table and the first lady to dig in took most of it. I phoned Dh to pick me up at 9.30 and was tucked up in bed just after 10….a big change from the Christmas parties I’d gone straight to work from after dancing all night 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Today I want to finish writing my Christmas cards….I’ve reduced what I send and do feel like the Grinch. I’m hoping to marzipan the cakes today and get them iced before Tuesday when Dh can take one for his boss along with a tin of mince pies.January spends - £587.582 -

Cakes are all coated in marzipan. I heat it up these days so I can roll it easily….a quick blast in the microwave to slightly warm it makes it so easy to roll. Wish I’d discovered this trick years ago….the saying ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ is so true as I haven’t been able to use a rolling pin properly since I had my arm op as I can’t put pressure through it and I got fed up of asking Dh to do it for me. I went out to get an extra pack of marzipan, I had 4 packets in already. Morrison’s didn’t have any so I toddled over to Ald! which is across the road. Got what I needed and remembered I wanted stamps for my Christmas cards in M’s so off I toddle back to Mozzers…..queued at the customer service queue . Only to be told they haven’t had any stamps for ages 🤷🏻♀️ Not sure what on earth is going on in my local shop as I can’t remember the last time I actually got what I wanted in there. I did manage to post a birthday card for tomorrow and a card travelling a distance but the rest will have to wait until I pass a post office tomorrow 😏
I can’t believe youngest gdd will be 7 at weekend. 7 years gone in the blink of an eye.
l have been asked to go for a drink with the people from my last workplace tomorrow when they break up. One of the ladies I worked with is retiring. I’m in 2 minds as most of them never kept in touch when I went off poorly and had to take early retirement BUT I can’t let life make me bitter and I did have some nice times there plus I don’t particularly have anything against the lady who is retiring. I’ll see how I’m doing for time and might just show my face for half an hour. But if I’m busy I won’t bother.Dh is out later so I think I might start with a bit of wrapping and assess what I still need to get….January spends - £587.582 -
Dh has just had notifications from energy providers and they’re reducing our payments from £180 to £90 a month…..knew they were putting the monthly payment up by too much. They wanted us to pay £250 something until we refused 😵💫 I do still use the drier a lot of the time but have reduced a lot of other usage. We are now paying what we used to pay before the prices went crazy. Hopefully the reduced payment won’t bite us on the behind 🤔 with a big bill.

I did go and meet some folk from my old job. I had a lovely couple of hours. I can’t believe the lady retiring is older than me…..she is always done up to the nines and always dressed impeccably. I thought she was taking early retirement but she has reached the grand old age of 66. There were a lot of new faces but also plenty I did know. I spent the grand total of £1.05 on a lime and soda. It’s surprising how the price varies. I paid £3 for the same drink last week 🤷🏻♀️The cakes are now flat iced. Again I heated the fondant icing so I could roll it easily. It didn’t take long. 4 will have icing bows on them, and the last a Christmas tree with pink decorations and a cat sitting nearby in a Christmas hat. They’ll be finished before Tuesday. Dh has thrown me as he is having Monday off work to attend the U3A Christmas celebrations.
Tomorrow I’ll be going to help ds put his tree up. I can’t believe it’s a year since I very nearly missed a friends birthday celebrations as I got my days mixed up. I ended up attending in my cleaning clothes as I was helping ds do his tree 🌲😳😵💫😂.January spends - £587.581 -
