We had a lovely Christmas. A porcetta ala Jamie Oliver for Christmas dinner. Poor gdd still gets herself in a tizz thinking she’s missed a meal when I talk dinner instead of lunch 😂😂😂😂 that’s the north/south divide 😂😂. We were very spoilt and Santa Clause was very good to us.
It took over 7 hours to get home yesterday it’s usually around 5 hours….the traffic was horrendous but the weather, although bad, wasn’t anywhere near as bad as I expected it to be.
ive had a lazy morning but really need to shape myself and visit the shops for some fresh foods.
I’m visiting my brother tomorrow and taking a lasagne with us as his wife had a new knee a few weeks ago and he’s not in the best of health.
Not sure if I’m starting with a stye as my eye is really sore. Don’t think I’ve had one of those since I was a teenager.

I went shopping yesterday and spent some of the cash I’d been putting on an Asd@ saving scheme. I’ve still got a fair bit in there which will be very nice over the next couple of months.
I got to the checkout and realised I’d left my phone and card with the cash on it at home…..thankfully before I’d unloaded my shopping. Anyway  spoke to a lovely staff member who put my shopping trolley in the fridge until I returned. Not very MSE using 2 lots of petrol 😵‍💫going home for forgotten items 😵‍💫 It’s a 30 minute return trip 😳
ive also forgotten the vital ingredient for the lasagne I’m making today to take to my brother’s later….pasta sheets. Dh is going to nip to Ald! which is a short walk away for me. I’m usually much more organised at Christmas having done a big shop for the period…..I rarely visit the shops between Christmas and NewYear. Next year I’ll be more organised. Famous last words 😂😂😂

Credit card has been paid so that I go into the New year not owing anyone anything…..except for £40 I’ve just spent.
Dh is about to go and collect his sister to bring her back here for a buffet…..he only asked her yesterday and phoned this morning to confirm the time. She’d forgotten 😳….wish me luck. Think it might be a long evening.
I’d hoped to watch Fiddler on the Roof this morning but it wasn’t to be. It was one of my mum’s favourite films and it’s 46 years yesterday since she passed away. It was actually quite nice being with my brother and reminiscing and laughing at some memories. Anyway since I was busy I decided that’ll be my treat on New Yeaars day when I’m not moving out of the house 👍😁

It actually went ok this afternoon when sil came over. Dh picked her up about 3 pm and he’s just taken her home. I’d done a buffet….very hard to do for 3 people. Giving a good variety means lots of food leftover. It’ll get eaten though.  I’d cooked a gammon I’d intended doing tomorrow but we’ve been asked over to ds house. I didn’t think it was big as it was £13 but it just about fitted in my big pan to start off with a simmering session before putting cloves and a honey and mustard glaze. It was rather delicious even if I say so myself. It’ll last a while as I’ll freeze some of it She doesn’t have any kind of catch up tv so we ended up watching a couple of cat cartoons that were on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day….she was in her element.
It has rained non stop what seems like forever…..could be a lot worse though.

Happy New Year to you and yours Milann!  I hope 2024 brings everything you wish for!👍
So pleased to hear you had a great Christmas. You've certainly got up to lots since I last read your diary a few months ago. Glad that your OH's 70th birthday trip went off so well too!
Turning back a few posts re your comment on dinner versus lunch. I think it's more of a working class v. middle class thing than a north/south divide. I was brought up in London's East End and we always said dinner for the midday meal rather than lunch. It was only when I started work quite young as a secretary at a posh City stockbrokers that I was pulled up on this. I mentioned to my new, nice but public school educated boss 'Oh, you're off for your dinner now?'  He looked a me strangely and said 'Don't you mean my lunch?'  I didn't  make that mistake at work again!🤣.

    Good to see you SSG.
Maybe it is a Class thing then…..whatever way it is my youngest gdd is still very concerned JUST in case she misses a meal 😂😂
Ive been doing a little reflection on this last year. A new me in 23 was my quest…..I was going to loose weight and get my backside in gear. So my weight is more or less the same as it was this time last year. Some of you may remember me saying I went for some hypnotherapy sessions at the beginning of the year. She took me through several things that need to be in place before the weightloss….state of mind, motivation and acceptance. I can honestly say I’m in a much better place with all these things than I was this time last year and although I haven’t lost the weight I wanted I haven’t put any one either. So I’m claiming this as a success all round. I have so much more motivation to do things - I was just sitting doing nothing back in January. I’ve stayed out of debt despite celebrating Dh 70 th and spending a fortune doing so 👍
So it’s onwards and upwards into 2024. I’m going to start a new diary and this time keep on track with recording my total spends….I started well 😂😂. I can’t carry on with this one as it is no longer 23…..just need to think of a title name for my new one
Happy New Year everyone. May 24 bring health and happiness to your door 🤞🥂

The hypnotherapy seems to have worked milann and certainly sounds very worthwhile. Perhaps I should try it! 😆
Looking forward to subscribing to your new 2024 diary in due course. 👍

Just to update 2023’s ramblings 😂😂
The plan was to got to ds for New Year’s Eve and he was going to cook something special for the occasion. Anyway the sun shone yesterday morning and he phoned and asked if we’d rather go for a walk by the sea to the town with the big tower as the weather forecast said it should be dry until 3 ish…we said a great big YES. He picked up up at 10 and we headed off along the motorway in 🌞. About 30 minutes into our journey it went black then the rain started….it pelted down from about 11 am. Obviously nobody told the clouds they weren’t to let go of any liquid until 3pm. The plans for a walk were quickly changed to a trip around some outlet shops in the next little town. From there we went to our fave cafe. We finished just as the illuminations were switched on at 4.30…. We drove through them and it was lovely  in ds car with the big glass roof 😁 We arrived home about 7.30 where we played games, including the one  he bought us for Christmas. I think it’ll be quite good once we really get into it. We we’re stopping checking the rules every few minutes last night but we’re getting the hang of it toward the end of the game. None of us had played it before. Anyway the leftovers from the buffet I’d made for SIL the previous day came in very handy and the only waste were a couple of prawns I didn’t fancy chancing. They smelt prefectly fine but I didn’t want to take any chances. We had a lovely late evening snack just in time to watch the London fireworks. I dread to think how much they cost….they were lovely but if they’d made the show half the length in time they could have put a chunk of money towards something that it’s needed instead of up in smoke….right I’ll get off my soapbox and stop being bah humbug. Ds went home and we headed to bed about 12.30 with a cuppa. We put the tv on for a few minutes and Elton at Glastonbury had just started…..it was nearly 3 am by the time we put the light off 😳😳😂😂😂 I haven’t put had such a lovely NYE for a long time….I’m usually wishing the clock towards midnight.
I’ve been tired today but have had a lazy one. I did nip for a cuppa with a friend but that was my lot. I want to watch the Post Office scandal drama later but not convinced I’ll stay awake 😂 I think it’s disgusting the way the postmasters were treated 😡
