Oh what a pain about the hospital appointment - honestly, does it not occur to them that people have to make arrangements around this sort of thing and it's not always practical to have it changed?! Pah!

I can sympathise with being unbalanced and stiff - I'm getting back to regular yoga and both those words very much apply to me at the moment!

I have a theory…I think they change appointments last minute on purpose so you’ll cancel and it won’t be their fault or look bad on their stats. I’m sure at least 50% would have to cancel or negotiate a new slot as their workload or transport arrangements wouldn’t work with a short notice change of date.
Im not surprised you are sore. I laughably did 20 squats yesterday after reading about kettle squats on here, today I couldn’t manage 10 as I was feeling yesterday’s…I should be ashamed 😢

They wanted to make the appointment at 9.15 on Thursday. I asked if it could be later as I was travelling a long way and wanted to avoid rush hour - which is notorious on the motorway near there. Lady suggested 10.15 which I said fine to. I got another phone call later asking if anyone had phoned telling me my appointment had been cancelled. Yes I said….9.15 she said…..NO I said ……other lady said I could make it 10.15……ok - I’ll make a note of it. So I’ve just had a confirmation text saying 9.15 😡😡😡😡 There’s nowhere to reply so I’ve spent best part of an hour trying to get through on the phone…..after getting through to the right department it rings out for a long time then cuts out. I’ll try again tomorrow 😏

I can assure you that this is not the case and that appointments are never cancelled unless there is a very pressing reason to do so. The last clinic I did where one of the clinics was cancelled was because the consultants father had died unexpectedly so it was too late to run it as understandably she couldn't come to work. At the moment with the stress that the staff are under and the amounts of sickness there also aren't enough people to replace someone who goes off sick although one of our doctors did do a clinic after being on call all night at short notice a couple of weeks ago

I do suspect there’s been some kind of emergency to cancel the appointment. This is one of the better hospitals I go to….but it has the advantage of being a small orthopaedic hospital with no A&E. We’ve decided to aim to get there at 9.15 as the email said rather than the people I spoke to on the phone. I do know the doc is fantastic, caring and a real gentleman. It’s just very frustrating as it a distance away and I had to do a lot of organising to try and get there today. I’m just pleased Dh is able to take me on Thursday. I wouldn’t have felt so frustrated had it been local and I could have got there under my own steam. I know once when I had emergency surgery they called a surgeon up from clinics after a complication so I have been on both sides. I certainly won’t be giving them any grief after the cancellation.

There's a difference between giving them grief and being unhappy about having complicated arrangements changed at very short notice though milann - I think allowing for the alterations to schedule you had to ask your friend to make you're entitled to feel a bit miffed!

Probably a good plan to get there for the earlier time too - last thing you want is to arrive at the time that was actually arranged only to be told you're late!

  • @Onebrokelady thanks. The staffing crisis can’t help at all, as there is no fallback cover. I wouldn’t wish that pressure on anybody. @EssexHebridean exactly, I doubt many people would dream of giving them grief, but feeling miffed and stressed over changes of plans is entirely understandable. You tend to work yourself up for these kind of appointments and it can take a full day with travel and waiting, so any short notice changes cause issues on both sides 😕

Since my friend had changed her work day for me, I took her out to dinner instead of the hospital.  There’s a small chain of Italian restaurants nearby that are lovely…..pricier and a bit classier than your run of the mill Italian’s. I went with Dh in December ( when he had vouchers from a loyalty card 😃👍) they told us then they were doing half price food during January. We had a lovely meal and put the world to rights. She didn’t seem too worried about the change of plan but I still felt bad for putting her out.
