Just caught up on your diary. You do so well, always love the declutter tally and the over payment, do you pay this off daily or monthly to the mortgage?3

This week has been challenging to say the least! Work is very busy, and I'm working tomorrow and also next Friday. Next week will be very stressful so I'll be glad when it's over.
I'm not feeling well at the moment, coughing a lot. I did take a covid test just in case, but it's not that. I haven't had a cold, so it's just annoying and preventing me from sleeping too.
We had our boiler service this week and they tried to write off the boiler. It's got a big dangerous sticker on it nowIt's the flue outside that is the problem, and I confirmed with them that it's not dangerous 'to us' so we can still use it while we get it sorted. They are arguing that the boiler is 13 years old so it's not worth replacing the flue as the boiler should have died by now anyway. I'm arguing that we haven't had an issue with the boiler and it's working perfectly, so why would I want to replace it? It's only ever had one minor fault in the time we've had it. So I am waiting for them to quote to replace the flue and then I will get an opinion from another plumber.
I'm not adverse to replacing the boiler, ours is a brand with shoddy reviews, but it is working, so I don't see why we need to do it 'now'. I'd rather keep it going for a couple of years while we save up some more money, and also think about what we want to do in the long term - i.e. do we want a heat pump etc. We can't get a heat pump now (and I'm not sure it will ever be right for our house) as our insulation isn't good enough, we need to replace the windows and we certainly can't do that now as well as a boiler. But I want the time to research and perhaps get an eco survey done (and hope that Govt puts some decent incentives out first as well!) so I don't really want to change it now.
To top it all off, someone hit my car this morning. Me and the kids were sat in it at the time, but they didn't stop and there was another car behind them so I couldn't see the details. Thankfully there's not much damage and DH thinks from the photo I sent that it will mostly T Cut out. So blooming cross!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee5 -

No thankfully it wasn't anything major.

I can understand your reasoning on the boiler. I too would want time to think it through instead of paying out in a panic.
Also glad you are all ok. Annoying though...If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

I don't think 13 years is particularly old on a boiler!!
