I really enjoy my PBs. They give me a whole month of hopes and dreams and sometimes some money too.
On the weight loss front the only thing that works for me with little effort is time restricted eating...
Inspiring PADs as per usual. If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

I've noticed I can easily get away with a decent breakfast and lunch, and then not eat again for the rest of the day. That's been a real eye opener for me. It doesn't bode well for family eating or social activities though and I still need to cook for the rest. I'm trying to make sure I have just a small portion, usually protein and veg. I really notice it if I eat a big evening meal now and it doesn't make me feel great."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". I have been vindicated in my redundancy claim. It has been accepted that I was correct. I've saved copies of that email in several places so I've got it if I need it in the future.
I'm not going for VR now, and I'm comfortable with that decision, but there's a possibility that it might come up again later in the year once they do the new structure. I think at that point we might need to really think through what we want me to do. It will obviously partly depend on what job (if any!) I get in the new structure. They are reducing the organisation by up to 25% so compulsory is still a real risk. If I do get a new role though, it's likely to be very different to what I'm currently doing and so I might have to lose my current protection and go on to statutory T&Cs. There's a difference in c.30K between the two levels of payment. From a meeting yesterday, there are still huge budget gaps right up until 2028 at least, so there's no guarantee I'd be safe even if I survived this round.
If I was to take it, I could use the payout to top up any reduced income, and it would likely last until my planned leaving date which would mean my monthly income would be protected (assuming I found a job quickly, even if it was at min wage). There are so many non-wage benefits I'd lose though, so it's more than just that. But if I was made redundant a year down the line, then I would likely be worse off. It's so difficult!
I've signed up to various job alerts, so that I can at least see what sort of jobs are coming up, and it will help me make a more informed decision.
I'm also going to use this as a focus for my healthy eating and trying to lose weight, so that I feel better in myself if I have to start interviewing. Making sure I am fitter will help if I take on a more physical role, or something where I am on my feet more.
Essentially I'm just going to try and get myself in the best place that I can so that I can be prepared if it is needed later on. I'll keep piling as much into savings as I can to get a good base behind me as well.

That’s a good plan. I do wonder what the future job market will be like when everywhere is downsizing. The bigger companies are trying to make it as uncomfortable as possible so people will just leave, but unfortunately it seems to be the experienced well trained people that go…and where does that leave them! Well done for standing your ground with regards to VR.
I changed from being a civil servant (fairly safe job, pension etc) to washing dishes in a cafe because it fitted in better with the HT's school holidays. When I did it I felt like I was jumping off a high diving board but it was so good going home at the end of the day without having to worry about workload and childcare. I know it's not feasible for everyone by the way, I'm just adding a point of view.
I've been wondering for a while if we could have a weight loss/healthy eating thread in the diaries rather than using someone's personal page? There's a giving up alcohol one.....we can't give up food obviously but we can give up some bad habits. Most of my overspending involves food at some point 🫤 and I'd love some healthy food inspiration. What do you think?
