    Morning J - and it really does sound like a happy new year for you - new job role, the van saving you money, and so nearly being debt free as well - brilliant stuff!
    Evening! It certainly does, what’s even better is they’ve given me the van today and I don’t have to pay until the 1st next month.

    Evening all new and old followers! So, I’ve been given the work van today and thought I’d sit down and work out the breakdown of how much I’m roughly saving so here’s the breakdown;

    (I work every other Saturday)

    6 days (Monday to Saturday) 34 miles to work and back.

    34x6 = 204 mileage
    twice a month I work 6 days a week so
    2x204 mileage = 408

    5 day week

    34x5 = 170
    2x170 = 340

    the whole month;

    408+340 = 820 mileage

    how much I spend on fuel currently for the week is £40, so £40x4 = £160

    £160x52 weeks = £8320
    van cost £40x52 weeks = £2080

    Saving myself a year £6240!!

    Isn’t the van and the old fuel cost monthly? So should be x12?

    either way you look at it, you’ve cut your travel costs by 75% and that’s before you even look at maintenance, tax and insurance

    I hate to be the bearer of bad news but think you may have got your sums wrong.

    You currenty pay £40 a week petrol (£2080) and will be paying your employer £40 a month (£480), saving yourself £1600.

    That's still a MASSIVE saving though!

    Another that thinks you've got your sums wrong.  I'm sure you won't be working 52 weeks a year!  Surely you'll get at least 3 or 4 weeks annual holidays so you'll be working 47 or 48 weeks a year rather than 52.

    Still a good saving over what you're currently spending but not quite as much as you thought.

    Thanks all for pointing it out. I thought I was a little off and I’m also rubbish at maths! I also think I confused myself a lot hahaha!

    Morning all!

    Sure I was half asleep when I wrote about my fuel savings etc as you guys pointed out and my bad maths! :lol:

    fuel = £40 x 52 weeks = 2080
    van rental £40 x 12 months! = £480

    savings are actually £1600!

    Anyways, my plans for that £1600. I will take the money from my bank account and split it between the challenges I have going on here.

    Yep, I just totally boggled myself! :lol:

    oh agreed, that’s also the plus side. With work discount I had rear discs that should of been £80 but with staff discount they ended up being £18 and some parts can be £30 and I can get them for £1!
