As per Ofgem rules the E7 rates have to be based on 58% day and 42% night use for 4200KWh  to get to the same averaged unit cost as for single rate.

So yes, you are not the target customer for the E7 tariff. There were often supplieres who had E7 tariffs that made it worthwhile for users below the "target" of 42% night use, but that was not the real user base the tariff is aimed at.

The headline rates that UW quote are usually only for those that take other services with them - and as those other services are generally far from the cheapest you will find, that means that for a vast majority of people, they would overall be spending more by switching to UW.

Then also worth taking into account is UW's frankly peculiar billing (charging VAT on money going in, rather than on the product being sold), appalling customer service when problems arise, and the fact that you can't make "top up" payments to your energy account (as a lot of folk are this winter in a bid to avoid DD amounts going through the roof) and all in all, I'd urge a lot of caution for anyone considering a move UW's way. If anyone raves about them - ask them if they are also a customer by the way - often this is the case, and each time they "persuade" someone to switch, they get a kickback.
