EDF appear not to be offering E7 via quote page and there has been no MSE/Martin Lewis publicity encouraging switching to them for E7....., EDF have been offering lowest E7 night rate for some time.EssexHebridean said:Of course, as a result of that ultra low rate, a lot of folk are now switching to them,1 -
i think thats because it can be hard for the average user (not forum user maybe) to work out if there better off on a differnt rate. mse could probably work out a calculator but unless they have one they normally avoid topics that need a bit of detail to understand and work out (avoid being accused of encouraging people to do something that ends up being bad for them).bristolleedsfan said:

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

I've knocked together a basic calculator - edit the yellow cells with estimated annual usage, unit costs and standing charge

I've never tried sharing like this, I don't know what happens if loads of people try editing it at the same time. Yes. I've been an E7 customer for at least 26 years. The benefit has been progressively eroded and today passed the threshold. Unless I can find a better E7 tariff (I'm on variable at present) I'll churn to single rate and no doubt increase pressure on the grid's busy hour(s).ariarnia said:

I've done an update which has the default Direct Debit rates by region in it - select your region from the dropdown box (Cell B11)
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dMm0I3s2vlAp8DdnM0LTcM_td4BwdHArpufAzicz__E/edit?usp=sharing
There's then a 3rd rate you can add if need by if your alternative comparison isn't the standard regional rate. Enjoy!

Good morning!
I've been doing a lot of research since I heard about the E7 price increases. Pretty much found all the prices for the main suppliers in the south east region (haven't included the standing charge but the prices do include VAT):supplier £ kw peak £ kw off peak scottish power 0.5054 0.1295 british gas 0.49426 0.145 edf 0.575 0.14959 eon next 0.478 0.168 utility warehouse 0.44072 0.16975 octopus 0.4687 0.1802 evo 0.4182 0.2499
My usage is roughly 1/3 on peak rate and 2/3 on the off peak. So i've moved to utility warehouse as these work out cheapest with that kind of split. I worked out that if your off peak usage is a higher % then scottish power works out cheaper (they have the lowest price per kw on off peak).
Regarding whether you'd be better of on a single rate tariff, I worked out that so long as your off peak usage is more than 33% of overall usage then stay on E7 (again utility warehouse is best for this). If your peak usage is more than 2/3 of your total usage then single rate tariff is best.
These workings are based on the south east region, so will vary if you live elsewhere. But thought it would help others - and i found most of these figures by going to their sign up pages to see what would be offered.
Hope it helps

Only checked EDF, night rate appears to be 6.79p, peak rate 54.97pstephen1983_2 said:Good morning!

oh sorry - yes you're right - the EDF rate i quoted is a special rate for complex meters (i have an EDF ECO20:20 meter) - sorry!!! If i was able to get that rate with EDF i would probably have moved to them. Everything else is normal E7 rates.1
