Economy 7 rates up 30% and 56%?!?
What eon next said my tariff would go up by from 01/01/23…D up 5% and N up 14%

What it’s actually gone up by as of today 31/12…D up 30% and N up 56%

I’ll be checking my statement carefully when it comes out in a few days time…
Hoping these rates today are a mistake.

Those are the rates without the EPG applied. When you get the bill you will see the reduction appear - possibly direct to the relevant charging line, possibly as an additional line, depending on the approach your supplier takes. (That’s easy to check from previous bills assuming you are on monthly billing)
Allowing that you have a gas supply too, have you checked that E7 is definitely the right setup for you though? It may be that you, like us, use gas only for cooking, and electricity for heating and hot water. If not though it may be you would be better off on a single rate tariff.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thanks too for the advice re single rate…it probably hasn’t been the best set up for us but we’ve only paid attention for the last few months. Going forward though it will be better for us to stay on E7 as we’re getting solar panels and a battery which we can force charge at night on our E7 rates and then use the stored energy in the day time as well as generated energy.1 -
Wow, the EDF rates are changing in East of England to approx 55p day and 7p night. We've just got them to put us onto single rate after much difficulty, but this is what we would have been paying from tomorrow.

7p for 7 hours great for those with an EV or a battery or two they can fill overnight.1

Why is EDF night rate so cheap for the East of England?1
-
Because their customer demographic is relatively few people who very heavily weight towards night use, at a guess. Of course, as a result of that ultra low rate, a lot of folk are now switching to them, so my guess is that the balance will swing back before all that long - possibly not April, but very possibly the next review after that.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Call me cynical, but my suspicion is that there are a lot of people who have E7 that aren't using the night rate as much as the E7 rates were originally intended for. Our property has never had night storage heaters but the previous owners installed E7, probably to get cheap night rate to heat hot water in the winter when they weren't getting the benefit of the solar panels installed decades ago. These were defunct when we bought the property and have had them removed. The energy companies can't make more money out of most customers, but there's the opportunity to charge 55p day rate to E7 customers who aren't paying attention to their day usage, and make more money from them.Make £2025 in 2025

Interesting, whereas E.On Next has increased its night rate in the Eastern region from 14.74p to 17.30p !?0 -
