Hi All,
I have copied @Naomim explanation of how to achieve a target if you choose to.
However it is all up to you how you want to make this journey your own. No rush, just do what you can, no judgment just some fun and support of having a little pocket of cash. It can be a good start whilst your money is spoken for else where but also getting you used to putting ANY money away.

Last year some of us took up the mantle of Tilly Tidying our bank accounts.  Some of you may do this already but don't realise it!

The general idea is that daily or weekly or even each time you log into your account you round down your bank account to a nice number ending in 00 and pocket the rest into savings, off a bill, mortgage, credit card.... you choose.

Last years challenge was to tidy £1825 which is a mighty challenge to take on but that doesn't mean you have to aim for this amount. You can choose how much you want to try and achieve. There is no right and wrong with this challenge. Just a bit of fun to squirrel those pennies away to good use.

Some bank accounts have a rounding option so every time you spend it will round it up to the nearest £1 and deposit the difference somewhere else. This is the option I use.

The aim is to get into the habit of Tillying away the little bits you don't notice but would ultimately spend.

To save £1825
Move any change less than £10 into on-line savings (I use e-savings with same bank, little to no interest but out of the Current Account).

So if your balance is £754.32, move £4.32 to savings, leaving £750.

Average will be £5 a day, which gives £1825 average at end of the year.
If super disciplined you can move lump sum into better savings accounts or premium bonds end of each month.

You can round down to £1 (£182 average a year) or round down to nearest £5 if more affordable.

Not advised if you are in your overdraft a lot: goal then is to pay off the overdraft which is likely your most expensive debt.

£1825 should go a long way towards paying Christmas 2023 or paying debt.

Happy Tillying all!

Thanks so much for doing this, I’ve never done it, I’ve started off today rounding down by £7.30 It will be interesting to see how I’m able to continue. I won’t set a target, maybe see what’s possible this month then take it from there.

    Happy New Year all!

    @BlueJ94 great start! - Welcome
@GingerWarrior - However the tillying happens is fine it is still tillying  :) Welcome again for another year
@MrsCautious - It is likely to be up and down, no pressure though. Welcome
@scrimpandsave - Welcome aboard again. - What ever we attain here is still an achievement

This thread will also make me a little more proactive in my recordings. I did continue last year but will be more accountable. I did attain at least £176.57 and I moved £100 to a savings account. I do have a few and can't remember where it went. So I will do this again but better this year.
I use my Nwide account as the account does round up and you can also opt to move spare change from spends. They call it impulse saver.
I also collect change from the floor too, I'm not too proud to curtsey down to collect it either, needs must.

Thank you for the welcome. 😀 I’ve been in and out of my account, more than usual, checking some payments, moving things around - so this makes perfect sense and a bit of a revelation. I’ve rounded up a little over £11 in the last couple of days into savings so feeling good about the difference this can make in the long term.

    Hi Peeps,
Popping in to log £14.98 so far in January. Have been moving money around in my various bank accounts, hopefully on a mission to make some pennies for savings. As I haven't done any shopping yet there are no left overs and for my groceries I am using cash to reduce the over spend potential.

    Hello all 😊

Is it okay if I join in? I am trying to build a strong EF and get myself into a position where I can then divert all spare funds, safely, towards paying down the mortgage. I’ve been doing TT’s through 2022 as you can see in my signature, but that value is overstated as I now understand that I wasn’t properly budgeting for things like the car MOT and service etc. (The TTs went into my savings as quite big values, but then came back out again for my should-have-but-didn’t-anticipate-spends!)

I have now made my first attempt at a YNAB budget including allocating all savings to preplanned spend pots (mainly from reviewing the records of where I ‘failed’ in 2022), so I know what my *actual* savings / EF are really worth! 😊

January 2023’s TT in the KK household currently standing at £31.40

    KK
    As at 15.07.25:
    - When bought house £315,995 mortgage debt and end date at start = October 2039 - now £233,521
    - OPs to mortgage = £11,338 Interest saved £5225 to date
Fixed rate 3.85% ends January 2030

    Read 40 books of target 52 in 2025, as @ 29th July
    Produce tracker: £243 of £300 in 2025
