Oohhh, that sounds heavenly! A picnic in a peaceful garden....
Dad is still in his bungalow, with me trekking to and fro a mile each way up the road, umpteen times a day to check on him in between carers' visits, so he's not on his own too long, because he still wants to be independent. I've never been more thankful that I learned to drive, and have a car. Today we had 'an incident' where he called for the careline, they called me and we all met there a few minutes later. He just lost strength in his legs for a moment. He's now under orders not to try anything unless there's someone there! There are stories I'd love to share, but this is probably not an appropriate place to do so!!! 😆
I think your mum and my dad would think the same way on lots of things, Laura. I do like her attitude though. 😄

@Laura_Elsewhere - It sounds like a wonderful thing to do. It has been amazing to me what has changed - places have disappeared, b and b's aren't there anymore, things look different. But planning the trip has been fun, even if I never get to make it.

Pip. You asked.....apparently my daughter had to stop herself from laughing the other day...one of the carers was using slightly crude language and every single time I answered her, I was unconsciously re-phrasing everything to more tempered language! DD thought it was hilarious 😂 I had no idea I was doing it! 
The carers seem to think Dad is 'a lovely man who never complains about anything'! What they don't know is he can't stand the ones who come in and talk non stop at him! Ho hum...He is lovely though!
He's very very poorly now. Sedated and trying to control his pain.

Thanks for making me laugh, @MrsCD. Sadly, it sounds like your Dad hasn't got much time left - I hope he can be kept comfortable and not suffer.

Dad passed away at home yesterday afternoon. The District nurses worked so hard to make him pain free, and he was calm and peaceful when he left us.

Today I've made lists......
Working my way through systematically is how I cope...it's my OCD streak. Others do it their own way.

Oh @MrsCD... it is good that he was calm and peaceful and pain free at the end. 

Go gently on yourself, won't you? I know you knew it was coming but ime that rarely stops it being a shock.

Lists are good and help you to refer back to  what you have done / still need to be done. We are still slowly working through our to do lists, whilst at the same time supporting our Mum. 

@Laura_Elsewhere  I hope that your Mum has recovered from her fall. I am first on the list for 'first response' for my Mum. I am just thankful that she doesn't have stairs. (Mum's problem is not picking up her feet when walking or turning round to sit down).
