I hope everyone's keeping warm? I've asked old Mr Bodger to keep the furnace alight all day so the radiators will stay nice and hot
We have about five inches of snow here, still falling, and forecast for maybe sleet later today but then heavy snow overnight and Friday morning.
I was jolly glad to have my trusty old grey wool skirt and red flannel petticoat to keep me cosy and dry when I trotted two miles round to the shops

Wow, @Laura_Elsewhere, that's real snow! We just have soggy cool weather down here, not even cold any more. I plodded up to the shops in my best winter jacket & boots & came home boiling hot! Scarcely a flake did we see, despite the dire warnings, yet 20 miles to the north of us, roads are closed due to snowdrifts!

Lovely skirt @thriftwizard. We only had a sprinkling of snow but as we had several inches in December I’m not complaining. Very cold though.I have been making curtains. I loathe making curtains but needs must, however doing the first one made my back ache so much that I’ve put off doing the second one. I suppose I should be using coupons but I think I’m going to claim the grant for being bombed out or something like; kitchen renovations left me with glass double doors that need clothing. Managed to get 5m of Sanderson end-of-roll fabric for £30 so they’re not costing much.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. A beautiful skirt @thriftwizard My hippy sisters sewed their long skirts out of dyed sheets, and one made her own long coat when she could not afford one she liked.
A friend has been making rag rugs out of old tee shirts, her lock down hobby. I cut my old ones into half inch yarn to knit a bath mat on large needles. Having frogged it a couple of times, and leaving it as a WIP, I think using an old tee shirt as a bath mat would have been much easier, perhaps cut into a rectangle, two layers with some machine quilting?10 -
Snow here. DH recorded -3° in the garden first thing. The WI meeting has been cancelled.
I have several stoneware hot water bottles made because of the WW2 shortage of rubber. I am well wrapped up in layers of clothes including a wool layer, a woolly hat and wool blanket. I have a wool lap rug as a warm shawl for reading in bed. I bought proper shearling lined suede slippers in the sales just after Christmas. I haven’t worn slippers for ages. They are going to have to last for a long time, so many firms are closing. I have another very old pair of thick cotton socks to sew into fingerless gloves. The cut off bit will go in my box to use as small rags instead of buying paper towels.
I think a bit of our bacon ration and an egg from the hens, and a bowl of hot porridge would be a good idea for brunch.9 -
Gorgeous-looking snow, @Laura_Elsewhere. We have none here. It keeps trying with miniscule flakes but the rain is winning.
@PollyWollyDoodle, that's a bargain for Sanderson fabric, lucky you! How can we help with the backache? Do you need a higher work surface or something? You could spread the fabric out here in the hall but the cat will plonk herself in the middle...
@Nelliegrace, I have lots of home made teeshirt yarn from lockdown! It's very chunky so I might end up finger crocheting it into something.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

Sorry, I've been MIA for a few days on war work, but I must say I'm very impressed with the beautiful makes.
The snow photo is lovely, worth printing and framing!
It's cold here in the NE but not much snow yet. I think there's been more at the coast, coming in from the North Sea. I think we're in the middle of the sandwich and we'll get snow overnight.2025 Fashion on the ration

@Cherryfudge you might have hit on the problem ... I thought it was because I was lugging 2m of quite heavy fabric around, but actually it might be because I use a dining chair at the sewing machine, and I think the height is probably not right. I probably should get an adjustable chair if (as I hope) I'm going to be doing more sewing.Thank you, one for me to think about.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone.
