Well as the 'marzipan' is made from soya beans, I'm quite happy to give both it and the icing a miss, and just stick to the cake!
I'm another who will be rejoining again next year. I've completely blown the coupons - I've bought a pair of shoes at sale prices, but its to replace a pair where the soles are going. I didn't spend all my coupons for the previous two years but I'm making up for it this year.Sealed Pot Challenge no 035.
Fashion on the Ration - 24.5/66 ( 5 - shoes, 1.5 - bra, 11.5 - 2 pairs of shoes and another bra, 5- t-shirt, 1.5 yet another bra!)9 -
Oh, and Merry Christmas, everyone. Hope you all get a chance to pause and take a bit of rest during the festive period.Sealed Pot Challenge no 035.

basketcase said:I've been lurking all year. I hadn't intended to get anything wearable at all in 2023, but needed 2 summer tops and new sandals for my holidays.
I'd like to join in next year, if I may?
Fingers crossed for the tests, Pip. And a Merry Winter Celebration of your choice to all.
Thanks everyone for your good wishes. I’m hoping that, after a few days, my shoulder will have settled down too and I’ll be able to knit again. That’ll give me an outlet for my frustrations, if I’m stuck in waiting rooms for any length of time.
Big hugs
= Pip
ETA: @weenancyinAmerica. I hope your gastroscopy is as painless as mine and that you feel better soon. Sadly, peppermint creams don’t work or I’d be ordering Benticks by the yard. (A very grateful patient gave us a yard or Benticks when I was working in Outpatients. Very memorable. Yummy!) If anyone remembers giving a baby “Gripe Water”, distilled peppermint water and alcohol were the main ingredients. I’m just skipping the alcohol."Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'
It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it - that’s what gets results!

Thank you @PipneyJane
Hope your shoulder gets better. I injured my rotor cuff earlier this year and have just had my last physio appointment, so you definitely have my full sympathy. Quite literally a pain! To cheer you up, please help yourself to my slice of fruitcake. I don't actually like it. Or Christmas pudding. Or mince pies. So do feel free to help yourself to my share if anyone brings some in.
I remember Gripe Water. Lovely stuff. It also had ginger and dill in it - or at least the stuff I had when I was small did.
When DD was suffering and we didn't have any, I made my own. Very diluted in a bottle of warm water. Worked like a charm.A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!

Is there a spare chair in the village hall? I would also like to join in the challenge next year. I can bring my mending along, and I’ve just cast off some socks. Next on the needles are fingerless gloves for the winter.9

Hi all, yes please for next year, I love this challenge, it really makes me think about what I wear. In the last year I don't think I have bought any clothes for myself, I will have to check to be sure, but I have bought for other people. Next year I might have to though as I am slowly but surely wearing out my clothes and I have lost a little weight so a few things are getting a bit big as well as worn out
.
@PipneyJane hope the shoulder mends quickly and your appointment on 12th gives you the best answers to all your questions, hugs.
@basketcase and @clairemr28 there is always a welcome in here
I might look through the window over the festive period and give you all a socially distanced wave through the glass but I won't come in as I tested positive for covid on Thursday so all our plans have been cancelled. OH tested positive on Friday but being on some special vulnerable list OH went off and had an anti viral infusion this afternoon so hopefully neither of us will be ill for long. Now I love fruit cake and christmas pudding and mince pies so I will happily eat any that are left when I test negativethough I have to confess I am not keen on icing so that's not a problem at all
Hoping everyone has a good time celebrating whatever festivals and feasts come along
Take care everyone11 -
Happy Christmas everyone.
I plan to continue residing in Mending on the Burrow for the foreseeable future. I realise I have failed to update my signature with this year's purchases, thankfully I have kept a list and I will do it over the coming week.
To anyone unwell, I hope you make a quick and full recovery.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
79.5 coupons rolled over 4/75.5 coupons spent - using for secondhand purchases
One income, home educating family10 -
Merry Christmas to all
I'm in for next year, an increase in household income (not much to most, but a big jump for us) means a higher risk of buying, so coupons will help rein it in

I ducked out of the challenge halfway through because I needed to replace my wardrobe having lost two stone. So I pretended I was in early 1939 with war on the horizon and tried to plan my purchases so that they would do me for a good few years with minimal replenishments. After all, the point of the challenge is to make us mindful rather than re-enactment.
I'm almost there for winter - I need to get on with the knitting for an Icelandic jumper I am knitting using wool reclaimed from husband's 1980s cricket jumper - which was typically 1980s oversized!! Even though his middle age spread a bit you could still have fitted a small country in there along with his definitely cuddly self. I've gone over more or less entirely to wearing skirts in winter as they are much more comfortable than trousers but hiding my veiny legs is harder in summer when I can't wear opaque tights. Loose linen trousers are comfy for hot weather but I need to think a bit about my summer clothes. Sticking to the coupons in 2024 may be tricky but I'm in with a chance, I thinkIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!11 -
Just popping into the hall to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! (Or whichever Winter celebration you have) 🌲
