But the local spiv will be happy 😃It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!6

Hi all, a few weeks ago I was down in Dorset dog sitting for my sister. I took the lap blanket I was making for my lovely neighbour and got it finished. I had taken another project bag but when I looked in it was actually finished, just needed the ends tidying up, fingerless gloves, so I decided to start another blanket but quickly realised I didn't have enough yarn left to get very far so trotted off to the local cs and found a whole display in one shop
I got a big bag full for £4
I have a question for the experienced knitters. I saw a picture of a scarf someone had made to use up some bits of yarn. They had used long circulars and cast on lenght ways then used different colours for each row leaving a 4 inch tail at either end to form the fringe. They used dk but I didn't make a note of the number of stitches they cast on and I can't find it now. Any idea of how many I might try? It struck me as a good idea as I only have a use for so many blankets
Hope you are all doing well at this busy time,
Take care everyone

@Liverpool_Anne - so the stripes go lengthways the length of the scarf instead of across? Sounds fun, and I like the commnon sense of the ends making a fringe, although I'd probably still want to knot adjacent colours together to keep the ends secure...
As for how many... well, what gauge and how long do you want?!
I think I would knit a test piece, just a few inches by a few inches, and then measure to see how many stitches to the inch, and then just cast on as many as will make a scarf the length you want!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

This is a lengthwise scarf I made a couple of years ago, to go in a shoebox for a young child. I think I cast on around a hundred and thirty-ish stitches. Hope that gives an idea of how many.
I did tie the ends together.
