    25p is still cheap.....compared to 34p👍
I'm just finishing my Go Faster tariff with 5p off-peak and 24.25p peak. I'm seriously considering Agile but the overall picture is scary.
    Do you have an EV?
Yes (that's a condition of Go et al).
The reason for asking is an E7 like the plunging EDF rates we see on the forum might work out better for you, depending on your EV energy usage and shifting as much to off peak.

I don't know the numbers but a fair few on go on this forum don't have an EV but in your case it will be worth doing the calculations.

Yes, the EDF E7 rate would potentially save us some money. But the peak rate is 54p per kWh which is pretty terrifying - I'm shying away from Go because the peak rate of 44p seems excessive. I will definitely look at it.

I'm reluctant to move from Octopus right now for a number of reasons: I've invested in the second Ripple Energy project which should come online in November; I'm not confident that EDF would seamlessly switch my smart meter to E7 without issues or whether there might be future complications changing which registers are active; and I get a reasonable amount of credit from referrals and Saving Sessions which.

Sadly neither my EV (MG5) or EVSE (Zappi) are compatible with Intelligent, otherwise that would be my preferred option. I'm hoping they'll come up with an implementation soon.

The peak rate is only "terrifying" if you are less than circa 30% off peak.  Anything above that beats single rate. We are about 70%+ off peak and loving the E7 rate!

I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

I'm very much hoping to significantly beat any single rate, but it's hard to gauge exactly how much I can shift to off-peak as I'm coming out of a 21:30-01:30 off-peak Go Faster tariff. In 2022 we only used ~ 1,000kWh at peak times but I expect that will go up by 50% with the evening usage moving to peak times. With total usage of 4,000kWh split 1,500 peak/ 2,500 off-peak it's surprisingly close between the latest Go tariff (£960) and EDF's E7 (£987) ignoring standing charges.

It's also worth considering that 2022 was a bumper year for solar and 2023 is likely to be significantly worse so my peak usage will probably increase - by an unpredictable amount, hence the fear of high peak rates. The case for a battery is strong with potential savings of ~ £600 or more on that E7 rate, except installation prices have rocketed and there is no guarantee that energy prices will stay this high for long enough to make a reasonable return.

Agile prices have been surprisingly low recently and not going above 35p at all. We only really need to fully charge the car once per week on average so can be fairly selective about when it's done. I'll look at how things change after this cold spell before making a choice.
  • Little on the high side again tonight. I assume this is due to the cold snap we are in and everyone is using more?
