Agile Rates

Now if I could just programmatically check the rates, and program some kind of controller to automatically switch on a load to charge my battery bank. Having to manually check the rates and change it each night doesn't seem fun, so at the moment I'm purely depending on the sun, which doesn't seem to be doing much.

They, until a few weeks ago, used to email each evening when prices went below £0.00, strange they stopped them and never told us, lol.

Between 03:30 - 04:00 the above shows -4.87p
Is this negative unit rate applied to my bill as below ?
If I use 2 kwh at -4.87p = -9.74p
Then I use 2 kwh between say 07:30-08:00 at 8.40p = 16.8p
I will be billed 7.06p I presume ?
So if I used 10 kwh between 03:30 - 04:00at -4.87p = -48.70p
Then 2 kwh between say 07:30-08:00 at 8.40p = 16.8p
How do I get billed for a negative figure of -31.90p ?
Sorry if I appear to be a bit thick but I am trying to understand the use of Octopus Agile for a switch to them later on this year.

Your maths is correct and yes there are rare occasions where you get paid (negative rates) to use power. In the overall scheme of things this averages out against your other usage and so reduces the overall price per KWhr in the particular month where the negative rates occurred.

Thanks for that.
So really it is a no brainer to move to Octopus Agile & move as much of my electricity consumption to the middle of the night.
Dishwasher, washing machine & tumble dry being the main ones.

Well sort of, the peak rate prices can be very high and the current Agile product is capped at 100 pence per KWhr, so on still days particularly in winter even outside the 4 to 7pm peak, you can still pay very high prices. The original Agile product with it's 35p cap became very interesting early last summer as 'cheap 12 month fix' but that got pulled by August last year.
