  • I've not seen any good offers though year, coop bizarrely was more expensive on the Christmas treats than anywhere else before Christmas.

Can't help thinking though that after the excesses of Christmas for many these items that have been massively reduced should just be given to homeless shelters and food banks

I'm so frustrated reading this thread as I am no longer able to shop in store. If these things are online at all they disappear before I see them.
Sometimes I think I used to eat better when I had less money and haunted the yellow sticker sections. My freezer would contain salmon fillets that cost 20p instead of £4+. Raspberries and pineapples for 10p. My all time best was a leg of lamb for 10p - and it was gorgeous.
Now the only time I can get reductions is when I order something that is on its last day or maybe the next day, as Waitrose don't charge in those situations. I think my best was a saving of about £12 but of course it doesn't happen every time and it's more often about £3.
I can afford a lot more now, but I still won't pay for something if I think it's unreasonably expensive. (I don't eat anywhere near as much salmon these days!)

Bonanza time at Sainsburys yesterday - Baileys cream, Brandy cream, Brandy butter & TTD Salted Caramel cream all at 1p for 500ml!!! (But 90p for 250ml!)  Surprisingly, still some left today (perhaps some people misread 1p as £1).  Xmas puds no better than half-price yet, and quite a few still on the shelves, so we'll keep on calling in . . .
A couple of days ago our Tesco Express had 300g half-wheels of Stilton for 31p, and wheels of Camembert, for 40p, so we're OK for cheese for a bit :-)
  • There are still Christmas goodies in Lidl, but they are not greatly reduced as yet. The whole store looked a bit sad and unloved tbf, it's only a couple of years old and feels tired already.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

I was cheeky in Aldi yesterday- wanted the reed diffuser- snowdrops & ivy - already reduced but it was the last one with a badly bashed box. Asked the lad on the self serve bit if there was any chance of a reduction? he took off 30%. Wanted to try that with the gin taster box today- but would still be dear (also very bashed!)

All sorts of items reduced- Christmas trivets, C .crafts. lebkucken, puddings, some shortbread. Most of the special food has gone but jumpers, presents etc still around- reduced but not give away... yet!

  • Asda, new years eve. Asda extra special minced pies 25p, iced minced pies 10p, farmhouse loaf 10p. Total spend 45p. Took the edge off having to spend nearly £7 on cough medicine at the pharmacy.

I bought over £40 of full price food for just over £13 on the 27th, 5Kg of chicken breasts for £10 1.5Kg of beef mince for £2.70 and 12 meatballs for 90p there was loads more but I wasn't sure if I could fit it all in the freezer. There was loads of meats that had orange stickers on them but not reduced in price but the use by dates were the 29th so I expect they were to be reduced at some point during the day unless someone bought them at the full price.
Someone please tell me what money is
