We went to M&S at about 3:30 on the 24th and found almost nothing reduced at that point.  There were a number of people with trollies slowly circling the store (sounds a bit like an old western!!!) waiting for the YSs to come out.  We found a couple of (full price) things that we were after and suspected wouldn't be reduced and as we headed to the tills I heard a manager saying to one staff member to start the reductions.  That would have been about 4 pm.  I suspect the circling trollies would descend on any employee reducing at warp speed so we hurriedly got out and headed to Tesco where even at full price many things were cheaper.  Might go back to see about turkey - not that we much like it but if one was cheap enough it would do for making soup and sandwiches.

More annoying at M&S was the fact that a number of random items were being put on the shelves where there were no price tags.  When asked for a couple of price checks the lovely lady in green said these were items from orders that weren't picked up.  I would have assumed someone would have had to pay in advance but perhaps not.  So they were putting them out and hoping someone would fancy them.  But £27 for a side of salmon is much too much for me and the lovely lady in green agreed that while she knew it was delicious she would never buy it at full price.

  • In our local M and S this morning, there were bags of tomatoes and satsumas, cucumbers and caulis and broccoli heads for 10p each. Not much else that I noticed. 😀
  • Did well at Asda on Boxing Day but absolutely nothing on Christmas Eve. I mentioned this to a staff member who told me that due to a computer 'upgrade' the mark down software refused to allow them to mark down goods dated Christmas Day (when they were closed) on Christmas Eve, and all the stock was scrapped. Absolute madness!!

I've just nabbed a pizza from Lidl for £1.50 - normally they're £3.99.  Some in the normal area were labelled as 30% off but there was a whole section deeply discounted as BBF tomorrow.  One of the staff had a huge trolley full she was filling up ready to slap on the 30% off stickers - they were hand written ones so I assume they used up all the official ones yesterday.  Never seen so much reduced!!!

    yesterday in Aldi

Christmas puddings, iced cake bars (the kind you slice) lebkuchen and similar reduced by about 1/3
    Brandy butter etc reduced
    Also boxes of biscuits reduced.
Their Belgian choc biscuit selection reduced to £2.99. Managed to find 2 with slightly dented tins so they knocked off a further 30% = 90 pence. Nothing wrong with the biscuits- even better at just over £2!!

However nothing at truly giveaway prices.....

At one point there were so few customers that they were outnumbered by staff!

I found that M & S and Waitrose really disappointing in the way of reductions.  We went both on the 23rd and the 24th and did much better on the 23rd. Hardly anything reduced on the 24th

Just been to Local Waitrose for some mushrooms and bay leaves and came home with Heston's Shimmering Penny dessert, marked down from £20 to £7.99.  We did the hokey cokey with it for a while by keeping putting it back because we didn't really need it but in the end talked ourselves into buying it as we would never buy it at £20 and we wanted to know what a £20 dessert tasted like.

    How was the £20 desert?
