@SaverRate - I wouldn't say it was a disappointment. I think I was lured by the Heston name attached to it.Would I buy it again for £7.99 - No but then I would always be wondering what a £20 dessert would taste like especially as they gave it a section in their paper. Now I know. Even at the bargain price of £7.99 I would pass.5

SaverRate said:Has anyone noticed this year that the Xmas meat etc thats normally reduced to go very quickly is still expensive, or is it just me?
Had some good bargains in Asda on chocolate etc. Tesco had Xmas roll wrap for 75p/roll. Sainsburys wasnt that good for bargains. Wilco had half price panettones. Lidl and Aldi had Xmas puddings reduced but not dirt cheap.
In the last 2-3 year's they have cut right back on the amount of stock they had coming in up to Christmas. My reasoning that they are doing this is to reduce the amount of stock they sell off cheap after Christmas and or cut back on the amount they waste.
Going back 4+ years I loved going in to there on the 26/27/28th and even a week after a new year. I'd get mince pies, meat, party food, and best of all the creative desserts that were ridiculously priced prior to Christmas, reduced to a reasonable price or cheaper so you could try that black forest trifle or chocolate bombe thingy.
This year sainsburys did have a panettone for £2.60 reduced from £5 something tho, as I had nothing sweet in the house this year I thought I'd try. Was it worth the £2.60? Imo nahh1 -
didn't need much of anything yesterday as we've not been eating much due to lurgy. but OH said he fancied fancy cottage pie so I popped out to M&S a bit after 4 yesterday - I think they must have had too much left over on Christmas eve so started reducing earlier. When I got there there was almost nothing in the top price ranges yellow stickers but did get one of their big cottage pies for £3.50 - I think normally it's £6 so that was a bonus. Also got some streaky bacon BBD 31/12 at £2 rather than £3.50 or something. Very little else to be had unless you were planning a buffet and wanted to buy up all their sandwiches.
On to Tescos where the vultures were circling. I felt for the staff doing reductions - they had a whole section of the fridges fenced off to allow them to gather in and YS things. The problem is that it's not a huge store - not an express by any means but about a quarter the size of the big Metro a couple of miles up the road. And it's not in a very up market area so the bargain hunters were out in force. I did look things over carefully, picked up a organic chicken thinking it would do for today but put it back given I didn't think either of us would have the energy to deal with it. And it was only a reduction to £5.50 from £6.50 so still more than the clubcard discounted ones that were BBF sometime next week.
In the end I got one of their pumpkin latte cakes which the OH likes £1.50 instead of £3. Likewise some gold top milk 55p instead of somewhere north of £1. If I had waited another 30 minutes I might have been able to check out the fenced off section but just couldn't be asked. And quite frankly my needs aren't as great as others so I figured better I let those on restricted means have the organic chicken when it's knocked down to £1.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I'm sorted for cheese after my excursion to Morrisons last week plus mine came with decent slate boards. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
